Had my A6 Lemans for a year and just been told by the garage the fronts are done in 20000 miles, does that seem weird when my rears are fine at 4mm both.

Is there something wrong here?

I also have an A6 le mans. At 1500k miles the fronts look like they will need doing soon and the rears don't look too bad. i am about to rotate the tyres front to back, then will replace all 4 together when the need doing, my guess is about 20k max

Its front wheel drive is it not? I'd expect the fronts to wear out first even on 4wd models.

20k miles is not bad at all from a heavy car like that.

The ones on GTI's only last about 13'000 miles on average!

The front tyres will work first as teh haldex is not true four wheel drive. It only swaps power to the back when you loose traction.

My A6 (admittadly it was an older '98 model) used to eat front tyres in about 10-12k miles, and that was more than half motorway driving. Mine was FWD which i would imagine is partly to blame, but it didn't seem to matter what kind of tyres were on the car or the type of driving that was done either

My first set of tyres lasted 14k on the front, (factory fit Michelin Premacy) Second set lasted 21k, (Vredestein) but were quite noisy. Now on Continentals which seem to be lasting well and are a lot quieter. (Local Audi dealer did me a deal on these as I had mismatched tyres front to back which can upset the quattro system apparently)

The Le Mans is a 3.0l Quattro. It is nose heavy so the front tyres get a beating from all the braking, turning etc. My last car a BMW 530d sport, used a set of rear tyres every 12k miles. If I get 20k out of my A6 I will be more than happy. (As an aside, it had run flats and got through 3 sets of front tyres in 50k miles as a reult of punctures or general tyre failure)

My current tyres are factory fit Pirelli PZeros. If replacing the tyres make sure you go for tyres with a matching load rating, as standard tyres are not up to te job on a heavy fairly powerful car like the Le Mans. The PZeros, have a load rating marked on them.

Thanks guys for the info, just thought I would get more tbh, but hey it does get a bit of a pounding.

Love the car but the bluetooth palava of it only working with certain phones even in just headset capacity, and my argument with the service guy that it's bleeding bluettoh so shouldn't be fone dependent!!

One week it works, nexct it doesn't and so on, so totally worthless!!! Might send Audi my 3points and fine when I get it for using my mobile as it's bound to happen at some point!!!

My car came with michelin sports but the dealer has put on Pzeros now which I do prefer of a tyre so can't grumple for 500 bangers!!!

So first service at 20000miles has cost 850 quid. frown

My bluetooth seems ok with my sony and nokia phones, except that it doesn't auto connect the sony.

£850 for a first service yikes Think i might shop around, my first service is due soon. Iknow that I am goingto supply the oil myself as dealer prices are insane.

If you let your dealer do all those little extras like phone the nearby mobile fastfit tyre place for you you will get stung.

Just get the dealer to do the minimum required i.e. the program services, then go indie for the rest - especially tyres (blackcircles or mytyres and others will save you a packet). You generally don't have to leave your armchair.

You should **KNOW** the condition of your tyres as you are checking them at least fortnightly - you know when you do all those things you're supposed to do - check oil, washer fluid, coolant levels etc. Having the dealer tell you this for the first time - and letting him deal with it is a sign of neglect. Low tyre tread is nothing but dangerous even with AWD especially as we get into the greasy & wet autumn months.

Are you sure you're a pistonhead?

SImes.
