issues with accelerating
Discussion
Help!
For some reason my 1999 TVR 4.0 doesnt like accelerating all of a sudden. In an instant it will cease all power, usually in first / second with the associated slowing down. I am just learning about cars and find this worrying as I only owned it three weeks. I took off the ECU, no problems there, same detail with the silver relays on the black and blue boxs. I did check the coil and quite a lot of oil came out of the plug, is that normal?
Sorry if I am missing something spectacularly obvious!
Cheers!

Oil in the coil sounds worrying. The coil is typically encapsulated in oil so it could be leaking from that, unless the oil is actually from over enthusiastic WD40 usage. Hesitation under load is often an HT related issue, so coil and leads would be high on the list of potential culprits.

fuel relays seem to go about once a year on my chim but about £6 each at your local car spares mine just seems to die
The proper Bosch ones can cost anything up to about £16 depending where you buy, which might seem like a rip-off compared to the prices you're paying, but they usually last a lot longer than a year! might be worth checking that the socket is connecting properly - if there's a poor joint then the relay will get hotter than normal and likely to fail sooner.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
