finally! been a long time waiting , but have her back from the garage, and now understand how a cerb should feel and drive, much happier, shes pretty exhilirating at high revs, and the linked decats with sp exhaust sounds sweet.

10 minutes down the road from the garage where i picked it up from, stop for fuel, and of course she won't restart - opened the bonnet and let some air circulate in there around the starter motor, once the starter motor cooled down a bit was able to get her running again, and most enjoyable spin back. getting traction on the rear 16" falken 452s that are on there at the moment is an issue, that should be helped by the new rims/tyres on the way, other than that only major gripe is the way the wipers catch the wind, im going to have to get some kind of single wiper conversion, although the wide and narrow windscreen doesnt look best suited for such a setup. just realised i didnt hear the tappety sound it used to have up front at all, used to be awfully clattery at idle/low revs, maybe the new cams fitted werent the "clatter cams"?

Pleased to hear you got her back at last been a nightmare few months of ownership!

As for the sicky starter. I think I would have had a Basil Fawlty branch moment if I'd been there.

Nothing wrong with a slight tappety sound on start up. Its better than if it was set the other way.

Glad you got it back. Happy driving.

Well, within hours of picking her up, the starter motor is acting up, stranded on my first trip out (to supermarket) had the rac out, finally home, need to start reading up on threads which relate to diagnosing starter motor issues, of which there are tons already im sure. as earlier today, leaving the engine cool seemed to get the starter motor working again, tried same tactic but no better, after a lot of fiddling/poking around it by the rac (who couldnt even get near the starter motor , accessibility is bad), it just started of its own accord in typical cerb fashion! The immobiliser metal key is definitely properly twisted, the keyfob definitely turns off the flashing red light, the first black button press definitely turns on the normal 3 lights (orange oil, red and MIL) and starts the continuous beep, and also i think starts up the fuel pump if thats what im hearing from the back, but the second press (even when held down for up to a minute) does absolutely nothing, im sure this is the most common thing people experience.

The starter is on its way out,or has had it.I,ve had two starters in a little over a month.Problems arise due to the starter being close to the manifolds which have no heat shield protection or very little to poor re-builds.

well this thread seems to be the one I need

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

describes my problem perfectly and a solution, so off to give it a shot!

I think starter motor problems come in two types, electrical, or mechanical, perhaps in some situations both! but seeing as the typical electrical faults are easily solved by bypassing the immobiliser in the starter circuit, worth doing that first, then at least i can judge properly whether a mechanical issue remains!

Mine used to do this too until a got a new set of arms with the integrated washers from Levens - now they sit tight and low on the screen even at warp speed . . . (on the autobahns of course wink )
