A45-A425 route ?

Hi all, In order to make the drive more interesting I'm thinking of comming off the A14 at Thrapston and taking the A45 to Northampton, Daventry and then The A425 to Warwick.
Does anyone know the route? Is it a bad choice or is their a better one. The only other option is down to the M25-M40

I know these roads pretty well. The A45 from Thrapston to Northampton is OK but not very interesting. When you get close to Northampton the A45 dual carriageway becomes 3 lanes. As soon as you get to the 3 lane section slow down because you’ve reached Scamera-land.
You then have 2 options - I would probably choose number 2 because of the M1 roadworks.
1. Following the dual carriageway (as it becomes the A508) to the M1 jnc 15 and go up the M1 to jnc 16 where you rejoin the A45 – be very careful to stick to the limit if you choose this route.
2. Turning off to stay on the A45 round the south of Northampton – Stick to the ridiculously low 40 limit on the A45 dual carriageway, it is a favourite Scamera spot. Once you are out of the 40 section you should be safe to go absolutely flat out round the rest of the A45 all the way to where it meets the M1 at jnc16.
From the M1 jnc 16 you follow the A45 towards Daventry. You will pass through the villages of Flore and Weedon. I live in Flore and there is a mobile Scamera there most weekends so be careful, and Weedon can be dodgy too.
Once you get out of Weedon the A45 is a fast enjoyable road all the way to where you join the A425 south of Daventry and should be Scamera free. The A425 to Leamington/Warwick is a great road with some nice bends interspersed by medium to long straights. But as Rude_girl says, you need to watch out for tax collectors.
