Does anyone carry out their own maintenance on their Cerb ?

I'm considering returning to the mark with either A Chim or Cerb as a weekend toy. (I used to run a Chim as my only car).

But i'd like to do all servicing and maintenance myself. This seems straight forward with the Chimaera, but i dont know much about the cerb ?

Also Chimaera parts are cheep and easy to get hold of. Are Cerbera parts difficult to get and expencive ?

Im not a mechanic but have done servicing and a clutch change on the Chim. Would the workings of the cerb be more difficult to work on? special tools needed ?

As far as I can see anyone who wants to pick up a spanner can work on Cerbs it's only nuts and bolts. The engine's a bit more special with less people who know about them but nothing that you couldn't sort out with a few phone calls. Parts seem easy to get hold of with the likes of TVR Car Parts and TVR Power etc etc. Go for it you know you want to biggrin

Basic maintenance is the same as any car I reckon. I have had a good look about underneath mine and appart from lots of bracings and skid panels to move out of the way its pretty basic.

SOme folks will tell you it cant be done, but they tend to be the ones that just drive into a garage to even get an oil change! I was even told on this board that its not possible to Jack a Cerb up from the front...

What do you know, it turns out you can!

Good luck fella, its worth a try if nowt else!

I do most of the of the work on Mine, and like NICECERB said, mechanically it's a very basic car. I've replaced the Radiator (remove 2 hoses, 2 bolts and lift out) Drop links, adjusted the steering rack, etc etc, but every 6k I still take it to a specialist for it's service, because they know exactly what to look for, what to check, what works loose and needs tightening etc etc, and more importantly to get the engine set up correctly.

So most of the work that needs doing on my 'Exotic Supercar' I can do myself. On my mundane Honda Legend I recently had to replace the Radiator (first fault in 80k miles by the way) If I can do it on a Cerb I can do it on a friggin Honda! A quick look at my workshop manual..........Hmmmm - and you have to do all this in an Engine compartment that doesnt have enough room for a Hamster to run around.

Disconnect Air Temp Sensor
Disconnect 2 x AT fluid cooling pipes
Disconnect Disconnect AT pressure sensor
Diconnnect Fan 1
Disconnect Fan 2
Remove Top Water Hose
Remove Lower Water Hose
Disconnect A/C Sensor
Disconnect A/C Condensor from radiator
and finally at the bottom.. Note: The above opertions should be performed when the Car is on a ramp and the lower engine cowling has been removed

Oh Boll%%xx - Mundane Honda has to go to the Garage !!

May have been "chinese-whispered" from the truth... you shouldn't jack up a corner of the Cerbera as it can crack the front or rear screens. That's not a Cerbera peculiarity - the same is true of Lamborghini Diablos and other Italian cars too.

Check my posts for the last year or so and you'll see how much can be done by yourself on your car.

I'm not a mechanic but have managed to do a serious amount of jobs myself.

At the moment I'm very busy, and I'm waiting for my new brake discs to arrive, but I'll be back working on the car before too long.

So, basically YES, you can do a lot of it yourself.

I put it slightly off center as I was working on the other side and I dont fit under there very well. It was only slightly off though, so no twisting.

Cheers
