I'm going to send back the new Avo front shocks I had fitted as they squeak something chronic. My servicing garage suggest I have Bilsteins put on rather than anything else. I know "which shocks" have been done to death but does anyone have any thoughts on replacing with Bilsteins rather than an adjustable shock. I don't want to have to pay the labour costs a third time if the next set squeak.

I am pleased with the Nitrons I fitted last year.

This really is potluck. Performance shocks sometimes developed a squeak, it really doesn't matter which make you choose. One of my front Gaz units developed a squeak a few months back.

Pot luck my ass. I had a few sets of a certain brand that squeaked then changed to nitrons and had no such problems? Was I just lucky with them?

Yes I've seen you "Just an attempt to even things out" comment. Looking at this from the other side there are plenty of TVR owners out there using Gaz shocks without any problems.

So it seems to be pot luck, sounds like putting the factory standard Bilsteins back on isn't such a bad idea then. I have found someone who will rebuild and rebush my two old ones for £180 so seems the best option. Thanks all.biggrin

"Just to even things out" even Nitron degass on occasions but I'm getting a nitrogen bottle, regulator and probe so I can sort them out in house.

BTW, one of the guys that joined Gaz from Leda came up with a simple fix that stops the squeaking in the footvalve and touch wood, this periodic problem seems to be gone for good.

That is the point, whilst Nitron are extremely good shocks they are a bit expensive for most pockets and as a consequence nearly 1000 TVR cars have Gaz fitted, most with no problem.

Mind you, double adjustable Ohlins would be on my lottery list.

Protech, they don't have bushes to squeek and are reasonable on price but great shockers.

Can't you buy brand new ones for a hundred pounds each ?? I'm sure they aren't much more than that ....

I think the new improved Bilsteins are £110 a corner from TVR Power - probably without the dreaded tho'.

New bilsteins are £110 each, plus about £22 for the bushes, plus VAT.

If you have the old ones rebuilt, will they be valved to the 'new' specification?
