I had the Rekord when I was a kid, I think the Tiger was an off road version of it.

I am still in the SMOC and 2 other similar 50cc Sports Moped clubs, even now!

The Rekord ran slightly higher gearing, so was said to be a nads faster than a Tiger Cross at the top end, but the latter looked about 4 times as good!

Was it the original or facelifted Rekord, Gaz?

Dunno, I was about 11yrs old. hehe

A few more wierd 50's I can remember owning, Peugeot 103?, Batavus and a Motobecane.

Used to race 50's about 10yrs ago - Raced them at Cadwell Park one time.

Must resist looking for a new bike.

I have always loved the Sports Mopeds, from 1972 to 1977.

They were amazing and i am, in fact, going to the 'BLUE HAZE' 2-stroke motorcycle meeting at The Ace Cafe, London, this week, if anyone fancies going and seeing some real 'strokers'.

The editor of the SMOC races one of those. I went to see him at Snetterton and Mallory Park.
They look SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO slow.

The old 50cc GP racers were great. 12 gears and a powerband 1500 rpm wide.

Caravan-puller!
Not!

I know a couple of "old boys" who were seriously into 50cc type stuff, both for track and drag racing - do the names Dave Brierley and Greg Lawton mean anything to any of you?

Drag racing a 49cc bike?

I wonder what quarters they run?

20 seconds at 50 mph?

My other 'ped was a Raleigh Wisp, paid a fiver for it. It was blue with a white granny grocery pannier. Then I got the Garelli 50. I also had a kart made from a bedstead frame with a Lambretta 200 engine, I swopped a digital watch and a pair of binoculars for that.

The world record speed for a 50cc is something like 120+ mph

I recall once doing some practice on a Yamaha TZ350 at Spa in Belgium and then-50cc GP racer Ricardo Tormo (rip) was out-braking me and passing me in the tighter turns!
He said to me afterwards, over a drink, that he barely ate to keep to 8 stones in weight and even wore racing boots a size too small for less wind-drag, so vital was the tiniest thing when you are on a 49cc machine!
