asked this on a few other forums ,

has anyone fitted a 5.0 litre serpentine engine into a mk1 capri ,
are there alot of modifications required to the front bulhead to accomodate the Serpentine pulleys etc.
are the mounting points for the block similar to other Rover V8 engines
would there be problems conecting the ECU
how much of a difference would the 5.0 make over a 3.9 EFI in terms of performance and reliability ?

I have read some horror stories regarding the LT77 gearbox

There alternatives seem to be A toyota Supra box with modified bellhousing
or Borg Warner T5 box , ( that I have heard are difficult to obtain}

apreciate advice

DBS,

I think this forum has a few Capri V8 owners and can probably help :
http://www.v-8.org.uk/forum/index.php

The mounting points are the same on the block for serp vs non sepr RV8's..

The LT77 is supposed to be good for 300 bhp and a little more if rebuild by the right people. Do a search on the wedge forum.

The R380 is an alternative that was in my old westfield. Strong enough for 300bhp but pretty agricultural.

Whilst on the subject of V8 powered Capris,i remember seeing an RS 5.7 Capri back in the 80's at a fast ford day.
The engine was a 351 cleveland from a mustang and it seemed to fit OK looking from the bonnet side IIRC.
Not sure if the car is still about.

As the others have said, ask over on the V8 Forum.

if its a Rover block you refer to, Im fairly sure all mounting points are the same with both old and new blocks.
As for ecu...you are better off going for an aftermarket setup. There are a few guys on V8 using megasquirt or VEMS, which are right at the cheap end of the scale. But there are plenty of other options out there.

As for gearbox....Dellow or Rodshop do bellhousing kits to use the Toyota boxes.
the W-series is more common, and probably about as strong as a T5, perhaps a little stronger.
These are found in n/a 5 speed Supras.
The daddy is the R-154 5spd turbo box. Very strong, as fitted to 88-94 Mk3 Supra turbos.
I used one of these in my old 4.6 twin turbo RV8, and it performed superbly.
