The last house I owned was definitely 'haunted' Things would move/vanish inexplicably, people seen in the windows when no-one's home, very strange and unaccountable noises and a few times out of the corner of my eye I saw man dressed in white shirt and balck waistcoat walknig across the top of the landing when I came in through the front door, other people saw him too. Was never scared thouigh, I figured he was friendly.
The house I live in now was built in 1985, so isn't the spookiest of domiciles. It's quite an unusual construction in that it's quite a long house with a one room leading on from another and eventually into a hallway. I was woken one night a while ago by the sound of a child or a dog running through the house. This was before we had children and we've never had pets so it wasn't that. I got up to have a look, but there was nothing there so I put it down to my imagination and/or semi sleep state and tried to get back to sleep but couldn't get rid of the feeling of the hairs on the back of my neck standing upright.
As I say, I put it down to my imagination until I mentioned it to SWMBO. She used to hear it quite regularly!! Not so much now, but I'd've loved to have found out what it was.

Orbs are definitely dust or small insects reflecting light from a flash or other. We proved it with a very scientific experiment involving a digital camera and a couple of old cushions!! Orbs are supposed to be spiritual beings that congregate in sacred sites.

It was noticed quite quickly from moving in, 99% of it you couldn't be sure about, thinking you saw someone in the room with you etc, but there were several times when you'd see someone as clear as day walk past a doorway or window only for them to disappear. We thought that there were people cutting though the garden to get to the street at the bottom, as there was no fence, my Dad put on up to stop them, the next time we saw someone walking down he went to confront them, only to find no-one there. At night when the house was quiet you'd often hear mumbled talking as if there was someone downstairs having a conversation.
The most profound examples coincided when the house was being decorated, it was as if you'd disturbed something and there would be loads of odd things from hearing footsteps, voices, coughs etc for several days afterwards, then it would settle.
If there were multiple people there they'd all see/hear the same thing even if they were not family members.
Odder still was seeing 'ghosts' of family members who were perfectly alive and healthy!
To me it's like watching CCTV, for what ever reason certain snippets of events are played back during which it seems perfectly normal, as soon as you realise that what you're seeing/hearing couldn't be real it stops. It's as if all the shapes n shadows in the room twist slightly to form the shape of what you see, then blends back to what it was, leaving you wondering whether or not you imagined it! It happened so often and with multiple witnesses though it's impossible to dismiss, and 'You're a spod!!' isn't a satisfactory explanation.
Never experienced anything odd anywhere else (none of my family has) and oddness at my folks house happens very rarely now.
Everyone knows someone that's seen/heard one, there are endless stories from human history to dismiss it.
Quite like the theory of air flow/Earth tremors causing sub-audible waves in buildings which cause hallucinations but can't see how that can be applied to a 1930's house in Leeds.

When I was 7 I woke up in the middle of the night to find what I thought was my gran (dads mum) sat on the end of my bed, (my dad had been disowned by his dad when he married my mum and had very little contact with the rest of his family as a result)Bizarre thing was that we lived in Leeds she lived in Glasgow
She told me that it was important that my dad knew how much she loved him etc and I should remind him of all the fun they had when he was growing up. As she walked out the room I followed & went to find my dad to tell him, my dad dismissed this as a childs dream.
Three hours later we got a phone call to say she had been rushed into hospital & if we wanted to see her before she passed away we should make the drive.
Couple of times I've seen a woman in Victorian dress walking up a invisible flight of stairs in our local pub.
