Does anyone know if anyone has any space at a fair price?

May be worth given Stephen at track-club a call - he may have some ideas/contacts that could help you.

My understanding being very non-technical is that they are not easy to change on a Mk 1 Elise

Not sure how many miles I could get out of a spare 2nd battery with no alternator?

My clients who race in the LOT series usually drive them to the events. But they do use a trailor every so often, which you can rent and attach to your normal road car? Also, a bunch of guys from the LOT series used a truck service to get some of their cars over to Spa, for the race.

Not sure about this as i dont know much about elise's but would it be worth changing the pulley size to alter the gearing on the alternator to prevent it over speeding, presumably its lots of High RPM's that's eating your alternator. I've doen this on my frogeye race car on the water pump and alternator.
