Guys, have been passed this info, you may already have heard, or it may be duff info, but I thought it worthy of mentioning.

*Re: M42 Junctions 3 to 7b Speed Cameras go live TOMORROW (2 Nov 2007)

As of tomorrow a new digital automated tracking system between junctions 3 & 7b on the M42 is scheduled to go live.

There are 276 Digital Cameras which have been set to 2MPH
tolerance.

You will not see any flash and the fine is £60 plus 3 points
(which could add to over £250 / year to your insurance).

Will that not be 10% + 2mph tolerance?

That's the usual MO on these.

Thought they have been live for a while whenever the signs are on?

Either way, never seem to be able to get a head of steam up in normal hours anyway.

Edited to add DOH! Tracking?

They don't have to give you 10% +2 if they don't want to. Speedo's are seen to be pretty accurate these days, particularly at around about the speed limit. By not giving you 10% + 2 revenue goes up greatly, and that is what it's all about innit?

I've seen them flash at all sorts of things in the past six months or so.... odd that they're changing the system! Thanks for the warning though.

This has been floating around for ages - it was posted back elsewhere in April '06 with almost the same wording!

I was under the impression that some of the cameras had been live for six months now. My radar picks up on a few that I take to be live. I shall be doing that run tomorrow, be interesting to see if there is a change.

As I said, I can't vouch for the veracity of the info, just that it was worthy of mention in case there was something in it.

Just done 3K since I bought her. Was in at Dom's for a new clutch and came out with a 2K+ bill as they found so many things not done or neglected! - Some really bad I can't say here.

If you are at the WWM meet this month I'll dish the details.

I'll be doing the M42 as usual tomorrow. Inside lane. No rush. Let the others get a ticket if they want to chance it.

As for cars speedos being accurate these days, every car I use the road angel in is around 10% out on the reading, except the tvrs which are pretty much spot on although you do hear many stories of them being miles out.

May be worth posting this on SP&L - there may be someone on that forum who can clarify.

How will they manage to keep 276 cameras calibrated?

I did the run and found that heading northbound from junc 4, the radar picked up one camera just before the exit on junc 6. Southbound picked up the last 2 sets of cameras before the turn off to juntion 5. Other than that there wasnt anything different, its been like that for quite sometime.
