S2000 Tyres.....

Hi guys, my partner has a '03 S2000 which is needing new tyres. Its shod with Potenza's as recommeded by Honda and the dealer tells me to stick with them, correct compound sir, etc, etc.....
Ive found these tyres to be expensive and hard to get hold of as well. My local Costco are doing a really good deal on Michelin's at the moment....336 big ones for all four, fitted balanced etc. I run a GT3 which has Michelins(n2sports)fitted and find them a really good tyre so im tempted to have them fitted and sod the 'stealer'!
Whats your views on the fitting of Michelins as opposed to the Bridgestones and is the price right?

I've got Toyo's on mine and always found them to be better than Bridgestones. Both on the S and on my old TVR I found them better in the wet and also with a more progressive breakaway from traction for if/when you want to go beyond the limit.

I've got T1-R's on mine, and to be honest they're too soft, even with an extra 2-3psi over stock. Much better in the wet than the S02's, but not as direct or confidence-inspiring in the dry.I'm going to RE050A's next...compromise between the S02 and the T1-R I think...

Hmmm...either you're on S02's, your geometry isn't great, or both. OK, I've been taking it steady this week, but I've only had a couple of moments, and I'm not the worlds best driver.How long would you expect a set of rears to last?
I'm on T1Rs which do warm-up quicker than S02's, so that might be part of it. But my geo is set to break sooner and softer than standard, and a little more rear-biased too... (only 1.5 degrees rear camber).
As for 'how long' - S02's anywhere from 6-10k, depending on how long the black stripes you leave out of each r'bout are!
T1R's probably similar, maybe more. Desparately trying to scrub mine down to put RE's on next year, but they're proving frustratingly long-lasting.
RE050's...dunno, not used them, but I'd say a little longer than S02's.
Defo no more than 12k for any set though unless you drive like Miss Daisy...

Just remembered yours was an 04 model. Also realised I've been driving very sedately these last couple of days when I was leaving work in a bit more of a hurry tonight and used more throttle than advisable turning left out of the car-park. It was collectable but it IS slippy out there...so might not be you/your car at all...does depend how you're driving it though...
If the geo hasn't been done for over a year I'd get it sorted...at least if you plan to keep it for more than say 6mths...

Completely unexpected once...sounds about the same as me, so I think you're doing OK...
I'm actually deliberately driving the soft-top rwd car at the moment...there's something wrong there, isn't there???
Just thought I'd share my Accord fronts have recently been shod with a new set of boots.......Vredestein Sessanta.
Not having bothered with swapping the T1-Rs from the back to the front, to see how they fayre, I can honestly say the Vreds are bloody damn impressive bits of sassy looking rubber.
Had them glued to a tightish bend in the road at nigh on 40 on a damp/wet surface, which if I'd tried the same thing on the previous Accelera Alphas that were on it since picking it up last Sept., I'd have been on the other side of the road!
Someone here had them on his Boxster, IIRC, and was equally well impressed - so I decided to give them a go instead of the much vaunted F1s or FK452s I'd been toying with, only to try something different than all 4 being T1-Rs.

Better still, tomorrow morning looks like it could be a corker! And yes, for some reason the S2000 is at the front of the drive not the 'teg!!! Oh well, have to have a brave pill with breakfast...
