I've just had a trye fitted to my everyday car, I noticed on the invoice a charge of £1.25 for Nitrogen. When I asked the guy said that it makes the tyres run better and it doesn't leak....

I asked if he had evacuated all the air out of the tyre first

Is this a rip off or what!!

I bloody well have! A national chain used to have a speciality in such balls until they were taken over by a major manufacturer.
For the record there are some advantages in using nitrogen including expanding less under heating but I very much doubt they're noticeable on anything this side of an F1 car. Obviously it leaks in exactly the same way as any other gas in a semi-permeable tube...

... and brings a whole new meaning to the phrase: 'lighting up the rear wheels!'

Merityre, check out www.merityre.co.uk for an explanation of the scam. One of the reasons is that air contains oxygen which can leak through the tyre causing a loss in pressure. but...unless the tyre is fitted in a vacuum there will always be a drop in pressure as the original air losses its oxygen?

Arrrgh. I *hate*, with a passion, web sites that change your browser size as you enter them, especially those that go full screen.

What's more amusing, though, is that because my screen resolution is 1920x1440, their website formatting falls apart when exploded that big. Serves 'em right.

Sorry, rant over.
