Hi All,

Quick search doesn't seem to reveal if this question has been asked before...so here goes.

About do buy a cheap run around for the wife whilst the Police try and find hers furious

Looking at a 1994 Nissan Micra in Red. Bodywork is acceptable and bar the odd minor scratch the paint itself seems passable. However, it is more of a dark pink than deep red so I assume the paint has oxidised?

Bearing in mind it's a cheap stand in vehicle what is a cheap way to improve the paint. T-Cut and wax or some AG Paint renovator??

A really good clean (don not use a sponge use a wash mitt), followed by some clay to remove any surface debris. Wash again, then I would suggest some Autoglym Super Resin Polish, followed by Poorboys EX-P sealant and topped off with some Collinite #915 wax or Dodo Juice purple haze wax. No point in spending silly money and all of the above should cost no more than £40 all in.

Anything with a bit of cut will get that pink off. I've used the AG Renovator on Grandad's 1988 Nova to good effect. Then give it a polish and a wax.

It's a Nissan Micra FGS. Give it a T cut then a good rub with any 1/2 decent polish. Job done.smile

I used the Meguairs 3 step, cleanser/polish/wax on my red midget with excellent results (approx £7 a bottle)

ideally it would require paint correction to get it perfect.

really if the paint has gone that far it will need machine polishing/correction

is it worth it?

not imo!

Red is easy peesy to get back to be honest but depends if you have the time or effort to do it by hand or if not machine polished as stated above...Machine polished using sfx1 with menz 3.02 followed by 3m 80349 or final finish..

We had an old red civic that went pink. We gave it to a body shop who cut it back for us. It looked great for a month and then it went pink again.

They will have used an old t-cut family product, the ammonia dries up the finish, hence the pinkness returning.

VXRMARC's pics above use Sonus and Menzerna products, they contain diminishing abrasives and lubricating oils. This ensures the finish is of a very good lasting standard. also, good uv protection should be used, a high Carnauba wax or a good sealant to protect the finish. Following these methods ensures a permanent result.

My old Corsa (97-p plate) had done as Vauxhalls of that era tend to - faded to pink. I used the red T-Cut colour magic, followed by a polish, then a topcoat of wax - regular washing and not-so-regular waxing kept it looking brand-new. The waxes I used were only about a fiver a bottle - Eagle One IIRC.
