New Boy Question
Discussion
Evening people,
Here's a question from a guy who's never owned a kit car, knows how to keep an eye on his engine, but wouldn't really know where to start if anything went badly wrong although I'm willing to learn.
I'm thinking of getting an already built kit car but dropping a much bigger engine in as opposed to having the popular pinto.
Something on the lines of a robin hood or tiger and dropping in a nice chunky V8 or cosworth engine to create something special.
Am I just dreaming or would this be feasable? I don't know if the chassis of either of the above would manage the extra weight/power so any other suggestions would be gratefully recieved, also any suggestions as to who could carry out the work for me (surrey area).
thanks guys
Jonny

Jonny, sounds like a nice dream but unless you have piles of money, I don't think you're going to make it happen. Why not just buy the car you want?
Normally, unless you can do the work yourself (and from your post I'd guess you can't) it'll cost you a lot more.
I'm thinking 4-5k for the car, anything up to 5k for the engine (if I wanted to go totally nuts) and a few k for labour and other parts required, thoughts?Normally, unless you can do the work yourself (and from your post I'd guess you can't) it'll cost you a lot more.
I may just be flushing money down the drain but on the other hand it'd be something reasonably rare, super quick with a pretty good resale value.
Please, if you think I'm nuts, tell me!!
I agree with everyone else. For the money you're talking about you could get one that has everything you want. I'd be concerned about the chassis not being up to the job of taming all the torque a V8 or a cossie would put out. If you get a Westfield Seight or Dax Rush chassis at least you know they're designed for the job you're talking about.
