Hi picked up our new toy today and i've got a couple of quick questions:

a) occasionally there is a slight hesitation in acceleration from low revs in 2nd gear. (Brimming the tank seemed to stop this though)

b) Oil pressure gauge... When at idle oil pressure seems to be at about 30 then when on the move it goes up to around 60 (i think - either way it's a significant movement)... is that normal? I've not had an oil pressure gauge in a car before.

Mods planned are:

  • Good wash and wax
  • Refurb the wheels in black
  • Get an MP3 CD player fitted
  • Chrome Roll Hoops with wind deflector
  • New steering wheel (current one is a bit worn out)
  • Side light mod
  • Clear side indicators

try some injector cleaner in a couple of tankfulls ,and change the ht leads and sparkplugs

pressure guage sounds about right there is less oil pressure at tickover than there is a full revs

when you say sidelight mod , do you mean rip the relay out for the dim dip ?
its mounted near the washer bottle on the inner wind , its the 1st one of 2 relays under the plastic cover i think.

With regards the oil pressure guage - on the earlier cars they had a proper guage that shows the oil pressure. Not really sure how to read it but it always seems quite high on start up and falls when warmed up IIRC.

Cars from about 94/95 on had a crap one that is basically on/off - the sender in the block is different and it's worse than a warning light. At least you will notice a warning light come on on the dash, if the oil pressure guage suddenly goes to zero it won't be as obvious.

You can retro fit the later guage/sender IIRC.

There is a light as well as the "gauge".
They replaced the real gauge with the fake one because people kept asking questions like this and it's easier to just fit a dummy gauge than keep answering the questions rolleyes

I have no light as far as I am aware, but a working guage.

Well the guage works as it should, but having not had one before I just wanted to make sure!

Going to try some fuel cleaner and if that doesn't work i'll get some new HT leads.

Turn your ignition on without starting the engine so all the warning lights come on. There will be an oil-warning light somewhere. This works the same way it does on any car and lights to say there is a problem.

The oil pressure gauge is a "nice-to-have" and is nice & retro but these day's it's a gauge almost no cars have these days because it causes more grief than it's worth because people aren't used to seeing a gauge moving around like that.
