What mpg can I expect from a 4.0 Chimera. I,ve had a 5.7 Corvette @12-15 mpg and don't want to go there again!

Depends on many variables but if you work on low to mid twenties on average you won't be far off.

I get low 22-24 around town and short trips, did a run 150 miles each way on motorways and good A roads 60 - 75 mph and returned over 30 which I thought was good .

Over 5 years I averaged 19.3 mgp in my 450. The best I saw on a mixed A-road journey of over 150 miles with a couple of short motorway squirts was 26.1 mpg. Motorway driving was typically 22-23ish.

Just under 30 mpg at 60-65 gentle driving on A roads, treating it like a baby, although this dosn't happen very often now. ) I was being very careful bringing it home!!

Another question for you old hands; I did a 250 mile round trip last weekend and the'immaculate'Chim turned out to be a dog.Being short of time and patience I am thinking of using a location and inspection service to find my car.Has anyone had any experience of this service?

If you're thinking of a certain chap that many on here recommend (RI) then PM me first for my opinion of him!

Just remember that an inspector isn't any good just because they can spot a good one - they really come into their own when they can spot the dud ones!!!!

That's one of the the best pieces of advice about buying you'll see here - EXCELLENT point Zippeethumbup

I was going to use RI when I found the first Chim I was planning on buying. This was from an (ex) "Official Dealer" (who, btw, turned out to ba about the worst car dealership I've ever encountered!!) Anyway, in the middle of all this I emailed RI to suggest I'd buy this particular car regardless of the delays being incurred by the dealership and have him carry ot his inspection proior to doing so. The only question I asked him was about price/value and he simply didn't bother to reply or acknowledge me, leaving me with the dstinct impression he was more interested in his full 'find' service rather than just inspections.

By the way, I didn't buy that car but bought another from PH classifieds which turned ut to have been inspected by RI for the seller when he originally bought it!

Likewise, my 450 averages 16-17mpg for my daily commute. Longer trips seem to turn back around 21-22mpg, mine seems to be less sensitive to actual speed, but more sensitive to stop-start-speed up-slow down etc. FWIW a full tank is just over 56 litres (12 gallons).

On a long run - 65-75mph on an M-way - best I've had is 26mpg on my 450. Worst is 18mpg. Generally about 20mpg, but that is mainly flying around A-roads
