waveyNewbie saying hello. After a few months sniffing around and the occasional rivetting question about wing mirrors or fuel consumption, I've taken the plunge. Yesterday, I agreed a deal on a black RS4 Avant which will hopefully be ready to collect on Wednesday. My parents have stopped talking to me, having found out that the grown-up, sensible estate car they thought I was looking for is in fact just as fast (read faster) and noisy (read noisier) as the 911 it's replacing. The reason for the swap is my wife is expecting our first child, and if all the supposed sacrifices I have to make are as a tough as this one, I reckon I'm going to enjoy this parenting lark.

good man. Make sure you get a Recaro babyseat to match the RS4's and go and sign up with rs246.com for lots of RS specific chinwaggery.

Hope you enjoy the car, don't let those saloon buffers convince you otherwise - we all really know the avant is the proper RS4 and they only built the saloon for the merkans

Sounds like it happens a lot - the cross-fertilized spirit of the RS2 lives on I suppose. I recognise a few names on here from the Porsche forum (kayc and por911t, for example) but how many others have swapped 911s for RS4s?

Its a great car for the money the RS4..i must admit i do miss the ballistic performance of the chipped 996tt but the RS4 is better than any Porsche i could buy for £40k ish performance wise unless i bought a really old model(which usually are too tatty for me to want to own). Its good fun the rs4,great noise, superb build quality and because of its understated looks tends not attract the kind of imbecile that hassles you when you drive a 911.

close - I have gone chipped S3 to Boxster S to (deposit paid for a) 996TT to RS4

much as I love my daughter it would have been perfect, automotively-speaking, if she arrived a year later!

Yup another 911 > RS4 convert here . My 996 turbo was earth shattering in performance however nagging wife and screaming kids meant it had to go however Im absolutley thrilled and uttterly delighted with my 2000 mile 2007 07 RS4 saloon that got delivered on Monday ( Nov 5th ) Its was very nice of all the neighbours to light bonfires and set off fireworks just to hearld the arrival of my RS4 .... or did I miss something
