For the last ten days or so I've been rushing about like a mad man following one of the rally teams taking part in the UAE Desert Challenge. If you want to check us out have a shufty at our site www.teamsaluki.com

Enroute to scrutineering :

In action :

One of the roads back to where we were camping... Oh I'ld love to have my car here..

If you want to remain inconspicous at the pumps don't go in the Saluki. You'll get flooded with people taking photographs and you'll need lots of Team hats to give away.

After 2000Km - the organisers had a flat section where competitors could see the finish point, they could see the ir family and friends come out to cheer them on. but 200M from the finish there were ruts clearly marked in the roadbook with a triple caution. Some people never noticed them with the obvious results. Some faired better than others as you'll see.. A nasty nasty decision and one that ten minutes with a grader would have fixed.

The quads did okay.

Some of the cars did okay.

The Saluki coming over the same bumps (admittingly having rolled about 60Km previously) hence the damage.

But for the bikers who didn't see the ruts and were too busy looking for their friends and were just happy to finish, it was carnage.
THe first of a sequence of shots of UK rider - Justin Carter who was bruised and battered after his off.

Some almost caught it.

but then crashed and burned.

After we had aided both these drivers - a call to the emergency numbers of rally control finally brought a marshall to warn the drivers of the danger. They should never had been there in the first place.

I've got a whole sequence of the bikes crashes which I'm giving to the riders should they need them to object to the FIM about the carnage.

I'm waiting to hear on the status of the last rider as he was sent off to the hospital just as he arrived at the ceremonial finish.

In the end we finished 13th overall - bloody good for a private team and put some of the multi million works teams to shame. We're 1st in Class and 3rd in the gulf.
