You tell us, you've just bought one!

My wife has got a 96 plate Audi A3 1.8 T sport with 150bhp and a book 0-60 of 7.9 seconds. I think the quoted figures are absolutely spot on; it seems a bit slower than my BMW 323i Coupe, which books 7.7 secs to 60mph.

They're not the fasest car in the world, but they're fast enough!

Ours felt quite perky. Remember they only have 150hp, what are you used to?

Maybe there is a problem. Classic problem is the Air Flow Meter on these cars (or Air Mass Meter by another name). About £90 to swap. Disconnect it (connector on inlet tract) and see how the car performs. Better = replace. Same = something else is wrong.

If it feels slow then you probably have a faulty MAF. Common as hell on the VAG cars.

Do some research so you know where it is and then unplug it. If the car isn't noticably worse to drive then replace it as its failed.

They make a massive difference.

Oh and get it remapped. That'll sort out hte power problem.

Yeah, MAFs on these are made of chocolate to say the least.

A3 1.8T is actually quite a spritely little thing when they're on song.

Take it to MRC in Banbury, they will perform a health check (and remap if required) They are best people in the country to look after VAG engines IMHO

And no I don't work for them!!

Thats a rather large claim, have you ever been the AMD or Jabba's place.

Theres also Midland VW in cannock who only deal with VAG stuff...

Ive got a new A3 1.8T service loan car at the moment. Im quite impressed by how much quicker it feels than my old A4 1.8T did (pre remap wink)

Ok Ok, of course I haven't been to every VAG specialist in the UK, BUT having spent quite alot of time on RS246, MRC are always the most regarded, and having used them on several occassions, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Ive sold a few 1.8t vags and I never get excited over the performance, first one I bought I though had a knacked airflow meter it was that dissapointing!! even the 225bhp tt and S3 never feel exactly quick, on a stretch of bypass near to me a good 130 tdi will do the same speed as a petrol and feel quicker imo.
