Im about to step up the great Tuscan/Tamora hunt but have a couple of reservations/questions:

Qu 1 - Sourcing companies ? Are these worthwhile? I have done my homework on these cars and will be looking for something with the latest rebuild I can (pref in warranty) ? is it still worth using one? Do they pay for themselves in negotiating?

-I have contacted both Rob Ingleby and James Agger twice but had no response so beginning to loose faith in them.

Qu 2 - I have a 10 mile commute to work, by choice I would only run one car, is this a bad idea with a speed six? I am aware that I would have to take it easy until warmed up etc. I have a clapped out mondeo I could possibly run but two cars does start to add up pretty quickly with tax, mot, servicing, insurance etc. I do want to be able to use my new toy regularly!

Help appreciated...

I can only comment on question 2 so here goes.... I use my Tuscan 2 as a car for the run to work every day but my journey is around 60 miles. I'm not sure it would even warm up on a 10 mile trip.

I don't run a Tamora or a Tuscan but do have a Chimaera and have a 14 mile run to work. I rarely use the TVR to go to work in as nose to tail motoring isn't pleasant and hard work on the left leg. Also running costs are high for the TVR -
My main car is a £400 122,000 MILE PEUGOT Petrol 405 which is great - 450 miles to the tank compared with 200 in the Chimaera - insurance is £200 and the car has depreciated by £50 in the last 4 years
I don't worry about people banging my doors and can keep the TVR clean - I take the TVR out whenever the sun shines. I have put 24,000 miles on the TVR over the past 4 years and an equivalent mount on the 405 - if you can get a good banger then its very handy to have two cars

Cheers

Don't have to commute (fortunately) but I know that if I only have a 10 mile trip to do it tends to lengthen to whatever is needed to gat the Saggy properly warmed up (plus a bit to enjoy myself smile)

Wouldn't recommend it.

Occasionally use my Tamora for a 5 mile commute (into central London). It just warms up in this time but to be honest isn't worth it and I certainly wouldn't do it every day.

However a Rover V8 car is a different issue - this would have no problem with such usage.

hi,

dont recomend using a tamora for a 9 mile trip either,i use to travel about 13 miles to work and it was only just

warm as i got to the work gates!i run a clapped out escort van again you dont need to worry who and where you

park next to,keeping the risk of your pj from gettin damaged.

smile

but then if you do take it to work on a nice sunny day, its like a little treat to yourself! then u remember why

you are going to work......to pay for these luxuries...

smile

ive just moved jobs so will be using mine a bit more when the spring summer is here to commute as i will now have

a 50 mile trip to work

I use my Tuscan for a daily 5 mile run to the office as I did with my Chimaera and Tasmin before that.
The only difference is that I take it easier in the Tuscan and allow a little more warm up time before I set off.
Going home always seems to be more than 5 miles though.

Incorrect- You used to have a 10 mile commute to work- once you've got a Tam you'll be setting off early & looking for a long way round hehe

It WILL NOT be warmed up fully by then- SORRY but a 10 mile trip would not be kind to the S6.

I too live 10 miles from work- if I have time & go in the Tam & it's usually a 20-25 mile trip hehe Otherwise I take the mini cooper.
Same goes for sh1tty days- leave the Tam in the garage.

Hope that helped.

Good food for thought.

I have a 160k oil burning mondeo that runs so well I'm loathed to let it go so might bite the bullet and run two cars!!

No one any comments on the finder services?

How long does it take to warm up a tuscan? My Cebera is fully up to temp in under 2 miles even on a cold day and thats not with leaving it running on the drive before I leave. I use the Cerbera as an everyday car and my commute is 24 miles there and back and I love it. Is the Speed Six really that bad to look after???? confused

I would say that you could do this. My T350 is 'warm enough' after about two miles, though not warm enough to give it 'the beans' for maybe five miles. She is my only car, though I don't commute in her (my journey is short enough to walk!). She has been reliable, though your luck may vary, and she is certainly much easier to drive in traffic than the previous Chimp (you'd have a left leg like a tree-trunk!)

It won't be cheap, mind. And she may let you down, sometimes. A spare car and a sense of humour might come in handy.

But, yes, I think you could...

The consencus is that a speed 6 needs 60degrees C Oil temp before its classed as "warmed up". This takes a lot longer than 2 mins. more like 15.
I think you are talking about water temp?

I have had my Tam for almost Six weeks driving (awesome) which certainly doesn't make me the worlds authority confused

In that time I have used her nearly everyday tend to go the long way to work and back making sure that she is well warmed up before giving it some will be back in the UK in two weeks time to give her a proper run

I am thinking about buying a wreck to use through the winter but only on days when the weather is bad

I brought her from James Agger(top bloke) thumbup did speak to Rob as well and found them both very friendly and helpful

James can be a little difficult to get hold of but always answered my emails He has a 04 Tam for sale at the moment give them a try but also speak to the dealers test drive a couple and you will buy one you wont regret it IMO

My Tuscan WATER temp is at 76°C and my OIL is at 50°C at 2 miles.
This is a slow 2 miles with 4 sets of lights and includes stoping to pick up my news paper and rolls with the engine ticking over.

Everyone has there own experience of finder services but when i was looking I contacted the BIG names and only to find the same as you alot of unreturned calls. My advice nearly all the info you need is right here by the generousity of the members of the forum it will just take a few weeks to read it all ! However once you have found the car for you put the deposit down subject to having it checked over by a mechanic or take it to a tvr specialist for inspection and try to get the owner to sort out any probs found as part of the deal.

Re commute in a speed 6 - do that in a wreck and enjoy the tvr on the weekends and I gaurantee you will enjoy it! or go for the v8 if you want to drive everyday. This is the dilema I had aswell but went for the Tuscan S and it is just awesome especially with a set of sports exhausts on.

Any further thoughts just Pm me or anyone for that matter
