hello all, quick question. just popped home at lunchtime (got two new kittens to look after) and then drove back to work so about 16 miles round trip.

i parked up at work to stick some stuff in the boot and when i went to reverse out of the car park first of all i get a "service car soon" message on the dash (or something like that - not the oil one) (it's done 10,600 miles at the moment and was serviced about 5,000 miles ago so shouldn't need servicing) followed by "check engine"

i checked the engine, well...it was definitely there as i drove it down the road and parked up.

it was running fine and no obvious problems and i did just start it up again to see if the same thing happened and it didn't.... so any ideas what's going on here ?

did it not like the short journey or something ?

I had the same and according to alot on here its a common fault with these cars. Pisses me off I have to say but goes with the teritory by the sound of it.
Also had ABS failure and Traction Off come up with a load of noise once whilst getting close to 190mph... that caused a skip in the heart beat I can tell you!!yikes

so with any luck it's not a major problem then ? just out of interest as i can't find any information about this anywhere, who do i call if i do need towing / recovering ? the cars come with 1 years breakdown cover do they not ? i've got no paperwork about this and no number to call and couldn't find any info on the vauxhall website etc.

the car has been running fine before that and seemed to run fine afterwards.

and yes i bet that did make you jump a bit !

Used it last week. Number is in the service book. It also states you get a car for maximum of 2 days, but they will keep it going normally if it isn't your fault.

I've had all manner of service reminders over the past few thousand miles. The current one says "25k miles service" which is odd considering the car has only done 15k miles, is not due a service for another month and the intervals are 10k miles. It's been reset several times by dealers and mechanics but I still get random reminders periodically. Best thing is just to ignore them I think.

If you get a sporadic service message up and it's not due one, have a looky into the FAQ's in here and you should find the instructions on how to clear the alarm...

There`s no towing eye... so don`t try looking for one.

If you ever find yourself loading it on a truck you may also have to lift the front of the car up by a wheel arch to allow the front spoiler to clear as the car is winched on.

I've had all sorts of messages crop up since I bought the car -service engine oil, change gearbox oil,10,000 mile service(the car had only done 5000)check engine etc.You get the chills running down your spine at first but you get used to these messages. The guys on here were great and now I ignore the messages if the car runs fine.Still get annoyed by the "box of gravel" sounds from the gearbox tho, especially when someone else is in the car and can hear it.
Happy motoring

My favourite has to be "Transmission Failure", I filled the bags the first time it happened after being away Stateside for a month, it then wouldn't let the engine start again, I had just arrived at the local shop to pick up some grub having just arrived back in NI so went in and got the goodies and then it started first time when I opened the car back up again....completely random - have had it once in the last few months out here in Germany too...

Alternatively you stand on the rope just in front of the front air dam......
