At what age can kids start karting? I'm not talking about competitive racing, but just a couple of laps round a track.

Cheers.

I guess that would be the same age regardless as most circuits have to get MSA track approval for insurance. The age is 6

My son is 6 1/2 and has expressed interest. What's the best way to 'get him a go'?

cadets start racing at 8 years old. there might be some clubs that do pre-cadet junior sessions but you would need to ask around.

the forum on www.karting.co.uk is very useful for info

8 to race test below this, but don't push em :-)

And remember to get good safety kit.*

karting.co.uk have a look and ask in the chat rooms.

  • was testing yesterday and had a massive crash, only got away with it because of good safety kit, still battered tho! neck/leg/wrist... and kart total rightoff..... head hit barriers which was scary!

Where in the Soutwest are you? Mini-cwk had a go at St Eval, near Newquay.

Proper single engined petrol karts at 6 years old, and they have a "toy" electric one for younger children.

They told us that there are very few places that let under - 8's have a go....

Might want ot speak to Swindon Karting Centre just south of the M4. They might be able to offer you something on some smaller machinery. Not certain, but his height might be more important than age when having a go at 'arrive and drive' sessions.
