Whining from engine when cold
Discussion
Only notice this in a morning from cold, but there is a whine that has developed - similar to the old fan belts slipping that is pretty damn loud but then disappears when engine is warm or reves are over about 2000 rpm - had a look under the bonnet but can't see anything visibly wrong.

Mine is doing it from the idler tensioner
Thicko here - Whats an idler tensioner? I assume its to do with the belts, but if it is "presently" doing it, i assume you have not been able to fix it yet?My car has only got 2,500 miles to go before it's first service and at it's present rate of increase in noise and length of time the noise stays on there will be no argument to what part has failed.
To check if it is the same on yours place a wooden stick on the idler (top left on an LS2) and you ear on the other end! or a long screwdriver.

Whining noise from the engine,
Is a sure sign the tensioner pulley bearing is worn. This if ignored causes the bearing to overheat and this then melts the plastic pulley wheel.
The belt then, as you can imagine, comes off the front of the engine and can cause all sorts of damage!
Trust me I've seen it happen!
