Alpina spec tyres on a normal e90/2

From what i have gathered from the media, the d3/b3 have bespoke tyres in both 18" and 19" sizes.

have any of you tried such tyres on a bmw? have you tried other non runflats for comparison? etc etc.

I was just wondering really.

AFAIK they're not bespoke. For my Roadster I have 19" non-runflat PS2's, 235/35 at the front and 265/30 at the back. However, from the Alpina website you can have various sizes and tyre combos for the E90/2:

ALPINA CLASSIC 18"
BMW 3 Series (E90/E91/E92/E93 + xDrive) up to 335i / 335d
8 x 18” 225 / 40 ZR 18 front
9 x 18” 255 / 35 ZR 18 rear
MICHELIN PS 2 Run-Flat

I have tried the following in replacement of the run flats on new BMWs...

Pirelli P Zero Neros (6/10)
Pirelli P Zero Rossos (7/10)
Goodyear Eagle F1 (7/10)
Falken FK452 (8/10)
Micehelin PS2 (9/10)

Compare that with the run flats

Bridgestone (1/10) Absolutely shocking tyre, almost at the point of being dangerous, back end skips out and any corner that is not completely smooth, they wear badly, they are loud, and they shake teh car to bits, have a look at the bushes on a 2 year old car that has been wearing these things and you will see how bad the tyres are!!
Get to around 5 degrees or lower in temp and they get worse!!

Pirelli (2/10) Again same problems as the Bridgestones, but don't get seriously worse as the temperature drops, however they do wear very oddly, uneven studs around teh edges which give a vibration in the car. Very strange tyre.

Michelin PS2 ZP (5/10) For a run flat well ahead of the rest, but still not as good as the cheap non run flat tyres out there.

Traditionally, Alpina have eschewed runflats and whatever else BMW happen to be fitting in favour of tyres developed specifically for Alpina in conjunction with Michelin.

I believe that the PS2s as fitted to the E46 B3 were originally developed in conjunction with Alpina. Michelin then released them in other sizes.

ETA - the pressure sticker on my door shut specifically lists Pilot Sport 2s as different pressure from non Pilot Sport 2s.

Alpina may not honour warranty claims as a result of using non-Michelin tyres. Since the cars have been developed to run on Michelins that's what I'm sticking with. I am currently having difficulty sourcing the Michelin Alpin tyres for the winter but have finally managed to secure the best price in Belgium. So it's off to the continent for another day trip...

My local tyre fitter sourced a Michelin PS 2 265/30/19 as fitted to the rear of my D3, delivered next day £200:00 bal and fitted!
