Road stats released

New stats show car traffic decreased. Slightly.

A motorway, today.
A motorway, today.
There is no easy way to make road traffic statistics in Britain sexy, so we aren’t even going to try.

The Department of Transport today released the stats for the third quarter of 2007 and they show that car traffic decreased by 1% and light van traffic went up by 12%.

Average vehicle delay on the slowest 10% of journeys rose from 3.78 to 4.16 minutes per 10 miles.

The average journey time on these journeys rose from 13.4 to 13.8 minutes per 10 miles.

It also looks like drivers are trying to avoid motorways and find sneakier routes to work.

Traffic on motorways has fallen by 1% whereas traffic on minor urban roads and rural A roads rose by 6 per cent and 1 per cent respectively.

Goods vehicle traffic increased by 3%.

If you want to know more about the Statistics Bulletin Traffic in Great Britain - 3rd Quarter 2007, it is available at: http://www.dft.gov.uk/transtat/roadtraff

Im sure the money could be better spent on things such as IMPROVING THE ROADS?

The number of cars on the road is always going to be going up. If you think of all the people you know how many are learning to drive and / or getting a car and how many are giving it up. The traffic will increase as the populaion does.
