So there I was cruising at about 60. Roundabout looms ahead, foot off, engine carries on at 3000 revs! Oooer I thought, grabbing for floor mat. No, its still 3000 and roundabout closing! Toe under the pedal, still 3000! Suffice to say, I got it back to base with a strong smell of cooked pads!
No, it wasn't the bonnet lining dropping, but I fitted a K & N air filter last year. To get a snug fit, I used some silicone rubber foam strip as a seal. Jubilee clip loosened? Who knows? But the air cleaner was sitting on the ledge, but no sign of the foam... I found it wedged under the butterfly in the plenum...
It's all back together now, but with a split nylon ring as the packing piece. If the air filter decides to go AWOL in the future, at least the engine won't be able to ingest the packing!
Moral? Naah. Just another TVR tale.
