How easy/hard is it to change accountants. My accountant is really doing my head in and I need to change ASAP.

We are a Ltd company and the accountants office is our company registered address too.

One for Eric maybe?

JFDI!!!

My Accountant did the same to me - I put it off for years, fearing it was tough - once they know you want to go, they're more than happy to charge you to move things!! Although I did wind up my company at the same time - nice clean break! smile

I'd find a recommended accountant to move to, discuss things with them and then set the wheels in motion!

No big deal. He/she doesn't "own" you.

Find a new accountant and, once you have decided to change, notify the previous accountant of your decision. The new accountant has to formally write to the previous accountant for professional clearance and also for "carry over" information. The previous accountant is obliged to pass on the "carry over" information to the new accountant for no additional charges.

Changing the registered office is easy too. Just obtain a Form 287 from Companies House. Fill in the details of the new address and send it back to Companies House. The old accountant does not have to be consulted or involved in this.

Been there!

As Eric says, they cannot refuse. They can drag their heels and generally be a pain, but if they get reported for this there can be serious consequences for them. In my experience that was as bad as it got.

The hardest part can be finding a good one! Recommendations are best. G'luck.
