I fancy getting myself a big lazy luxobarge to commute 50 miles a day, but would like something a little more unusual than an old BMW or Merc.

I have thought about a Mazda Xedos 9 2.3i Miller as from what i've read they still return 35mpg, are full of gadgets and certainly come under luxobarge status, does anyone have any experience or information about them?

Alternatively, i'd appreciate some other suggestions for a +30mpg luxobarge for under £3000 if anyone knows of a hidden gem.

have a look on some jap import sites, you can access a big auction list on bonsaicars.com

try a honda legend or a toyota celsior (basically an LS400) or toyota crown. nissan QX are quite nice also and aren't massive but are comfy.
or if you want power what about a toyota aristo (basically a lexus GS300 but avalible with the supra TT lump!) VERY nice and quick cars and whisper quiet!

No, as soon as you add hairdryers the consumption sky rockets. It's got to be kid freindly as I have two of the blighters and it's got to say 'waft' to anyone that looks at it. I've considered a Legend, but all information gathered so far leads me to believe it won't do 30+ mpg on an average.

lexus LS400 or 430 with LPG conversion will give you the equivalent of 30+mpg.

Nissan QX. May be pushing it to get 35mpg but the 2.0 will get near on a long cruise. The 3.0 is really the one to have though. They are a bargain. Not quite in BMW territory but they have all the toys and are very comfortable. You can pick up a ten year old one for less than 1K and most on the trader are sub 3K.
