BMW 540i sport test drive - WOW! Black or silver?

Hi guys had the pleasure of driving a 2001 540i sport last night. I was so impressed by its build, speed, and the auto box was the best i have experienced. I was looking for a Jaguar XJR but i think the BMW suits me better. What colour would you guys go for out of Black or Silver? Not interrested in Blue!

Ps it made my 156 V6 feel like a right tired old shed!

I just bought a 2001 540iA Sport Touring in Black. Looks nice. Would prefer Silver, and one that starts reliably. It has an electrical problem, data logger is being attached this week to track down the currency drain. On average the E39 is more reliable than the Jaguar XJR from the posts I have read

Ive got a 540 sport and really like it, My mate has got a XJR - not my cup of tea - but it is considerably faster. (although my dakar keeps up with it!)

Keep an open mind regarding colour, and buy the best car you can for your money.

I do like mine, I just don't trust it yet. Love your Dakar !

My mates got a 540 Sport in Estoril Blue with Grey leather and 18" AC Schnitzer (sp?) alloys... very nice car.

Personally I'd like one on black though...

15mpg if you drive it like a hurse, 8-9mpg if you go easy, 5mpg if you are anoying sports cars.

You are exaggerating, aren't you? They're the kind of figures I'd expect from an M5.

Well given it produces about 400bhp and weighs the same - its about right then!

Blimey.... I got an average 19.9 out of our old X5, and that's far heavier! Oh, and my M5 was anywhere between 18-24.... methinks you should have it checked it out! Do the trip computer figures tally with your own calculations of milage and usage?

to get sub 15mpg you must either

a. Live permantly in the city

or

b. drive everywhere like a complete tt


In mixed 'normal' motoring low to mid twenties is realistic

The sport versions with the big bumpers always look the best imo.

Silver is nice and subtle and as said, stays clean better ... but it is also a very boring safe option.

Black will have your bucket and sponge out more ... because when it is clean it REALLY looks the business
