I am researching engine options for an Ultima GTR I will start
building in 2-3 years.

Here is an engine I am interested in using:

http://www.bmwm5.com/articles/m5e60/pressrelease2/julye60m5pressrelease2.html

Has anyone looked into if it would fit the Ultima chassis?
(I am aware that the 7 speed SMG will not fit)

How long is it? For it to fit it must have small bore diameters. Also, I'm surprised at the header sizes, they're tiddley.

I do not have the exact measurements but by using this picture as a reference:

and the fact that the bore is 92mm and cylinder spacing 98mm I estimate that the block is approx. 65-70cm long (approx. 27 inches).

How does that compare to the V8's, LSX, etc?

Front of water pump to the bell housing surface is ~27.50" on LS1. Jay Esterer put a BMW V12 in his GTR. His website says it's 26".

Hi,

No discussion I tried it and it fits.

I wanted to use it, and measured it in the car.

Of course you have to change some chssispipes.

I used it with the Porsche gearbox,
the bottom of the chassis was already out of my car.
the hight and the length was no problem.
no exhaust was fitted, you have enough space

Already had the lambo/audi V10 project on its way and decided to go on with that.

Big difference was the stuf on the heads,
audi has it on the back BMW on the front,
and the BMW V10 engine did not come cheap...

Well the last bit can be discussed because now I had to make inletmanifolds etc.

made no pictures, stupid I know.
