Not sure if this is the same outside of London, but I have noticed an ever increasing number of marked police cars where the base colour is silver.

Is silver the new white?

Are the police realising that white is the single most difficult colour to re-sell, and are thinking ahead with the choice of silver.

Is this something to do with visibility or just fashion?

What's the story?

Bulls eye.

It's all in the resale and silver goes down better than flat white.

Yup!

Essex even have some blue ones! (but they are Mondeo ST200's!)

From what I've heard this is the case; its purely on the economics of re-selling them. Have to say while I thought it a bit odd when seeing them at first, I completely understand, I think white is a hideous colour for most cars...so boring and lifeless. Not surprised people didn't want to buy them.

That's it exactly. I reckon they're a bit late though. Silver cars are already omni-present (read boring), this will be the final straw that will ensure silver will quickly go out of fashion over the next couple of years. Who wants to look like a rozzer after all! Unless you are one of course. Buy a silver car at your peril!

All IMHO of course!

Rats - and there's me with a Silver Cerbera. Maybe I could get in quick and sell it TO the police as a hot-pursuit car.

The reason in the MET is that cars are now lease/hired from the manufacturers, mainly BMW and Vauxhall. When we have caned them to death, they get all the stripes taken off, put the radio/cassette back in and sell them to the unsuspecting public with one careful owner !!!

It's confirmed then, silver is the new white Well for the police anyway.

It just doesnt seem right! Can they not just leave somethings alone. What next, blue fire engines and british racing green ambulances

I often wondered why other drivers slow down or don't overtake when they see me on the motorway. I guess they may think I could be a cop, which I am not.

Apparently Silver is more caring and sharing and suits the "Police Service" better than White .......and of course, they will be worth more.
