Hi
I brought my current 4.5 Cerbie in March, it was a nine year old car which had only done a genuine 9,350 miles.
I think it now needs new tyres as the ones on it are the origanal S02's. There plenty of tread left but nine years old on a car like ouers,!!!!!

What do people recomend?

There's a limited amount of tyres to fit a Cerb available over here so I ended up with FALKEN's on mine and they seem fine.

Plus they didn't cost the earth which is always an advantage.

Andy - I use Falken FK452s on the Chim and I know a lot of cerb owners who use them as well with good results.
Got mine done by Huntingdon Performance Tyres in Godmanchester.

Unless you are using the car on track, I would suggest you stick with current tyres and put the money in the contingency pot for something more serious. It is only a matter of time before you'll need ityes

I'd totally disagree with this. 9 year old tyres will likely have some pretty serious dergradation of the rubber and likely have cracking sidewalls etc.
Personally I'd want to get fresh new rubber ASAP regardless of whether I was on road or track.

I guess saving the planet and owning a cerb is trickyhehe (Better not mention the 20yr old tyres on my E-Type)

I'm in the process of buying some new tyres now, and am definetly looking forward to some Toyo Proxy's. I know from previous cars the grip they provide is good (especially in the wet) if not up to that of the really expensive tyres. the main thing for me though is that the toyos have slightly softer sidewalls, and given that my cerbera can sniff out the slightest camber change at 100 yards i'm hoping the new tyres should alleviate that a bit. Previous posts seem to suggest that it should help anyway. In terms of cost, the toyos are really on a par with the Falkens- cheap and effective!

Toyo Proxies T1-Rs - used on our cerb which is sprinted/ trackday'd etc.. they've lasted ridiculously well and are good in the wet and dry. Seriously good tyre for a Cerb. thumbup

Fit new tyres. Don't risk your car (especially at this time of year).

Me - I swear by Eagle F1's, especially in inclement weather.

Same here, although I do rather fancy the 888's next time.

Best of both worlds 888's for the track on 17" spiders and T1-Rs on 18" SP's fo winter and ormal road.

If you want to try something different from Toyo, YOKOHAMA A048 R ADVAN are worth a look.

There are lots of very good alternatives out there that don;t break the bank.

There are alot of threads on here that discuss tyre choices

I have just put my second set of Toyo T1R's on. Got them from Camskill for £420 for the set of four. But I have gone for 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 on the back.

Hi
I am thinking of Goodyear Eagles F1's as fitted to some Speed 6 cars, has any one got them on there 4.5 and what do you think of them.

The Goodyears tend to get good reviews from owners who've had them.

Toyo Proxes tend to be widely used on Cerbs and the general concensous is that they are a good all round hard wearing tyre, however whilst I agree with this I think that the Falkens offer better value for money. If they still made them then the SO2 would be my tyre of choice.

Some good alternatives have been recommended - Yoko's and R888's, if you don't mind compromising grip in the winter weather then give these a try as you'll be more than be rewarded when the roads are dry.

So the list is:

Toyo Proxes T1-R
Goodyear Eagle GS-D3 F1
Falken FK452
Yokohama A048 R Advan
Toyo R888
Avon ZZR

Jules.

Im not sure the falkens have the edge on value for money... the proxies have proved to be very good in the dry and incredible in the wet (from our competition use) - but in terms of value for money, they're astonishingly durable... ours do several standing starts, full on burn outs to get heat into them before hand and thats not even mentioning the pounding they have around track - they've lasted atleast 20k at the back with a fair bit of tread left?! IIRC they were £90 a corner too - bargain. smile

edit: Toyo were OE on all TVRs at one point too...

I have tried these on the front (225/35/18) and they didn't inspire confidence for me. Possibly because I toyo's on the back. I have taken them back off and have a new set of Proxes on, but I have changed the profile to 40 series.

I've posted on this before soapbox , and don't want to sound like a stuck record (or CD, or MP4 file, or whatever is most up-to-date), but I had a bad experience with the Falkens that came on my Cerb - one letting go at high speed, and when the others came off, evidence of damage and degradation on the inner walls. If you look at a Falken next to a Goodyear, for example, the cheaper tyre has a lot less material in the sidewalls - that's why it's cheaper, there's less of it.

I suspect economising on tyres is like economising on shoes - you pay more in the long run.

Never had F1's on the Cerb, initially SO2 then Toyo's. The T350 has F1's. My feeling is that the F1 is the superior road tyre, very good in the wet. I do not think they perform as well as the S02 did on track, probably about the same as the Toyo. In terms of wear, the F1 is way better than the S02 or the Toyo. I have 14000 miles on the T350 including 5 track days, 4mm left on the rears, shoulders getting a bit thin on the fronts.
