360 Buyer Guide & F1 vs manual
Discussion
Does one exist?
Can anyone share their ownership knowledge so I can do some basic checks before I have a car looked at by a specialist inspector? Can anyone recommend an inspector?
What problems do these cars suffer from? Is the F1 OK or is the manual a safer bet?
Any advice welcome.
Cheers

i have the f1 gearbox and it is very nice to drive ,,but in sport mode can be a bit jerky ,, and in traffic its ok as you just pop it into auto,,, but never pull away harsh in first only do it in second if you must as that is what really wears the clutch,, had mine 2 half years now and not needed a clutch since bought
i've got a manual,
done 10k miles on a variety of roads,
city driving open roads, alpine passes and a trackday.
no problems with the gearbox at all, (although first to second under hard acceleration is a bit sticky sometimes)
the change is positive and fun.
i tried an F1 and found it was a good box, certainly not the stuff of the horror stories you hear.
used properly it's almost as involving and easier to use on a day to day basis.
i didnt buy one because i simply wanted a manual not because i thought there were any issues with it
so i would suggest it's purely a matter of taste.

Thanks for the info guys.
From the research I'v done it seems the 360 is pretty reliable and doesn't have the common problems that the 355 has. I'v tried the F1 gearbox and I think it encourages you to keep your foot nailed to the floor and rev higher as its a bit like a play station!! This of course is a good thing but to the next owner probably not......
I'm struggling to find a detailed buyers guide whereas there is one for the 355 so if anyone out there has any buyers tips....

I recently bought a 360 and went for the manual - to me there were too many unknowns about the F1 including various software updates, eating clutches and a general concern about costs should it all go wrong. Add to that all the advice on forums about not reversing up a hill, keeping it in sport mode to reduce clutch wear, always nail it away from the lights, problems after software upgrades etc really put me off the idea - then I drove one, it definitely put me off as it was jerky and a thoroughly unpleasant experience, add to that the aesthetics of a ferrari manual gearstick and gate and I was sold on the manual. I also reckoned that manual cars were fetching a slight premium over F1 cars from what was available at the time, may not be a general trend but perhaps doubts over the F1 are affecting the value of older cars.mike360 said:
go formula one !...sounds so so good downchangeing through a tunnel
so does a manual!...
the bottom line is, you can listen to us ranting on all day.
we're in the cars we want out of personal choice.
drive them both, pick the one you like best and buy it!
then head for the nearest tunnel!
Had the same dilema when deciding on manual or F1 for my 430. Went manual and never regretted it. Different car and boxes I know BUT one of the main reasons I went manual will apply to your 360 purchase too. Have a look inside a manual car, delight in that beautiful open gate, ali gearknob and lever sitting between the seats and then look in an F1 equiped car and tell me that it doesn't look empty and plain somehow. Just my view of course!
And as someone else has said it's sooooo much easier to dip that clutch and blip the throttle when necessary - ie OFTEN!
