yes.

thats an Mx-5 based concept for a lightweight, cheap sportscar.

think of it as a poor mans Cayman.

Is that not the 'Kabura' concept??

iirc it had a bizarre 3-seater arrangement with the front passenger sat further foreward than the driver, allowing for another seat behind.. whereas there was just a parcel-shelf behind the drivers seat....

yeah thats the Kabura. And he is having you on.

Its an MX-5 coupe, with funky styling.

I think they were indicating the next rx-7 will be smaller, lighter, less powerful, arguably a better drive. A bit like a Cayman to a 911!

Well, RX7, or MX5, I think it looks suitably funky!

Go on, then... what is the 911 a poor man's version of?

Whatever... The point is that there is always a car that is either more expensive, faster, etc... So the rather pathetic 'poor mans 911' type comments are ridiculous.

i heard the RX-8 will go end-of-line soon because the rotary cannot be made to pass Euro-5 emissions

But the point of "poor man's xyz" is that it has similarities. Hence MR2s are a "poor man's Ferrari" cos of the mid-engined layout and the overall look. That's my take on it anyway.

Euro V is introduced september 2009 for new vehicles, start of 2011 for ones already registered.

So if they introduce it before 2009 they can sell it for a few years even if it doesnt meet spec.

As the RX8 was one of the firsdt to meet IV I think the X7 could happen. RX8 has successfully reintroduced the rotary without any scare stories (apart from the usual perpetual rotary crap), I'd guess the RX7 to be on the same platform, 2 seater but what engine?

Turbo or 1.5l twin or triple? Thats if they bother. IMO throw the renesis into the MX5 would be an ace move.

Mazda are currently working on the next generation of rotary engine. All that is known is it will be a 1.6 and will be cleaner and more efficient. Expect it 2010 or 2011.

That car is horrid, and youve gotta say if you were in the market for a Rex,why go for the new RX7 or even the RX8,personally id go for the old RX7 and have its engine re-built,miles better looking and performing car than what its replacement is!
