I am considering purchasing a 1.4x telephoto converter for my kodak p880, it is 100 pounds (roughly) although if i get it from America, 57 pounds but should i get it?

I want to get closer to the action, even if just a little more and apparently it increases the sharpness?

Thanks

What's the existing focal length of the lens? 1.4x a 50mm lens is pretty pointless, but if it's 200mm it might be worthwhile.

Must say though I find it hard to imagine a teleconverter improves sharpness, as a rule adding stuff on doesn't improve image quality.

140 * 1.4 = 196mm.

A bit further and sotrta usable but not a lot and no way will it increase sharpness. Sounds like a lot of lolly for what it is tho.

1.4x will reduce light by one stop and 2x will reduce light by 2 stops.

You can also sometimes loose the use of autofocus.

It's one of those lenses that screws onto the front of the lens, isn't it? Not the conventional (D)SLR converter which fits between the lens and the body. So I don't know if the same rules apply. But I've got a feeling it'll just degrade the image quality and won't be worth it.
