Just been to request a drive in one of these from audi norwich.

only to be told that they first want a £1500 desposit, then in about 4 months we can spec colours and pay 10% and only after that can we actually take this thing out for a spin.

The man on the phone insisted that this was all official audi policy. Is this true?

How can anyone ask me for over 10 grand before i've even had a chance to turn a wheel?

do yourself a favour and spend the 100 grand on a 997TT with carbon ceramic brakes,

don't get me wrong, im audi througha nd throug but the arrogant piss taking attitude of the company even to loyal customers over whats basically a over hyped fashion accessory that will be a residual disaster once the looks wear off is frankly astonishing.

Hi
Just looked at your profile and saw it says joyfully unemployed? Does that mean youve made your money, you were being ironic/sarcastic, or are you genuinely unemployed confused

If you have the money to buy one then good for you and I suggest you call Guildford Audi if you are in that area and speak to a member of their sales team who could not be more pleasant and helpfull. As for whether it's company policy to take a deposit before a test drive I think hes talking ccensoredp . I called the dealer booked a test drive was asked to bring both parts of driving license no mention of deposit before drive. Salesman I will admit did not seem terribly interested in selling the car was quite offhanded with me to be honest asked what I do, how I planned on paying for the car if ordered etc which to a degreee I could understand esp since he knew I had turned up in my diesel A4 however he still took me for a test drive.

Will pass on dealer salesmans name who I spoke to at guildford audi tomorrow if you wish.

Arogant, piss taking attitude...and then you mention Porsche? Unfortunately it would seem that Audi are merely taking up the hint from their parent company frown Porsche are well into the above game as anybody who was on the 997TT and GT2 list will (un)happily confirm. Porsche are even so bad they gave me a written quote for the deposit they wanted on the GT2 and then told me it was irrelevent and that a new deposit figure was mentioned and my previously cast iron solid order & place in the queue was now subject to blah, blah blah. Given my previous conversations with them and my explicit reasons for transfering the order from the TT to the GT2, at best I was non plussed, at worst I was seething with them. At the weekend I went to see an Audi dealer about a TT Quattro Sport they had in, rang up beforehand and asked to see it and take a test drive. No chance I was told, its in showroom condition. OK, I thought, possibly fair enough, I popped by anyway just to take cast my eye over it. I liked it, then asked if I gave them a week's notice, could I organise a test drive with them of the car only to be told that I would have to give a deposit over first on condition that if the car drove OK I would buy it. Just for a £19k 2nd hand Quattro Sport. I almost told the gentleman and his manager to their faces where they could go forth and procreate.

thanks

Just phoned audi uk, apparently most garages simply ask for a credit check and theres no official policy on veting people for test drives. I find the whole thing pretty annoying, we turned up in the rangie, well dressed etc, explained that we'd already been out in aston, porsche etc and we still got given the off treatment.

Guildford is abit far from me and theres plenty more local dealers so I'll try a few more first.

As for a porsche? performance wise I like it, just not that into the rest of it. Only other car seriously being considered is the am v8.

Cool
May I suggest that you go to a different dealers. But before you go call to book an appointment and test drive. If they tell you that they expect a deposit before they will take you out as it's audi policy etc then tell them thats fine you are not interested in buying a car from a dealer which is making up it's own rules you will simply look at buying the car from a dealer who is actually serious about selling their cars. However I will say this if they ask for a deposit its not necessarily unreasonable but rather than the deposit they ask for offer to give them a lets say £500 deposit of good faith to prove you are a serious customer but that the deposit is not an offer to buy nor that you are going to def buy the car if they let you test drive it and that you get the deposit back after the test drive.

At the end of the day a deposit means nothing as its refundable so you can quite easily give them the money go for a drive and then ask for the deposit back all they are really doing is aggravating you and putting you off the car and them, you may wish to point this out to them as well.

The dealer I placed my order with is going to find out the hard way that I dont appreciate his offhanded attitude.

ETA: Surely you are not seriously considering buying one of the city bicycles aka porsche? wink

To all those who own one feel free to tie me to a stake and set me on fire ( Although no offence is intended just my personal feelings on them). But just so you know I dont hate all porsches actually love some of the older 911's 928 speedster as it were etc and so forth just the new ones which are common as muck. getmecoat

Well, I walked into dealer on Saturday. Was with my 9 yo son at the time. Left my details. He rang me just now and I am booked in for drive of the r-tronic tomorrow morning. When he mentioned deposits etc on Saturday I just said I am not intending to put a deposit on any car I haven't driven.

Simple as that.

I walked into Brighton Audi 6 weeks or so ago to speak to service about my A4. Got chatting to a salesman about the R8, said Id love a go in one, he replied that their dealer demonstartor was arriving in 30 minutes for a booked test drive later that day. Car arrived on the dot and away we went for a 40 minute test drive smile

Bloody nice it was too!

Arranged a test drive through Audi Ipswich, no questions asked, no mention of deposits. Just gotta decide now.

Thanks for the input! At least I know one company that wont be getting the best part of a 100k from me.

Gotta be a manual - the R-tronic was a bit crap. Brakes over servoed. Other than that, great car. Incredible throttle response.

Such tosh - my dealer has been excellent don't take one arrogant git as typical

As to it being an over hyped fashion accessory - I seem to remember similar things being said about Porsche in the 80's.

How did your test drive go or is this a guess about the car's capabilities?

Ahhh Sir you Mis Interpret my intentions..

I have placed a deposit for an R8 on the grounds that it will be more capable than most porsches but more importantly rarer beyond doubt than any porsche.(If not it will be cancelled/sold). I defy anyone to come up with a modern porsche not sold in unlimited numbers (other than the really silly things like the gt3 cgt etc which by the way are a differnt class of car) unlike the R8 which is being sold in limited numbers and which does not look like every other audi on the road. Yes I know that to a degree it looks like a big tt in pictures however it doesnt look like a cayenne, boxster, 911, gt3, new panemera etc etc etc.....

That is where I take issue with it. For a car to be truly special and worth 80+ thousand pounds of my money it needs to be rare or not the common choice hence why i had an alfa. Each time i drove it was exciting partly because it wasnt a 3 series bm merc c lass audi a4....

Mate Norwich ripped 200K+ from me over a few years, with GOOD deals, they don't do them anymore (greed) Ipswich are a great bunch, I bought my RS4 from them.
