Faster than a diablo
Discussion
I know it's an old link but only recently watched the Clarkson "Fastest production cars circa 1996"
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QsKQYu72f90
Do people think that the 4.2 is faster than a diablo? I own a 1997 4.2 and it's quick, but it still amazes me that it trounces the 911 turbo, I would love to believe that it was a standard 4.2.in the video
By the way I am in love with my cerbera!!!!!!!!

Apparently that was a completely standard cerbera, save for a billet crank. I read somewhere that Autocar were suspicious about the car being tweaked too, so they asked to borrow it again, not letting on they were planning to dyno it. Turned out it was putting out a healthy 359bhp, so whilst its good, you couldn't really say it was tweaked. One of the old TVR employees also said that it was PW at the wheel there, and that partly by fluke, he just managed to launch the car absolutely perfectly on that occasion.
Still, bloody good showing for the old tiv!

Line up a mid-90s Diablo (4WD or 2WD) against a Cerbera and find out? FWIW I don't think a Diablo of this vintage could beat a Cerbera. Prove me wrong?
I've "compared" my '02 Diablo 6.0 against earlier Diablos and found it to be a lot quicker. Video (Remember, trackday rules mean no overtaking on the right!)
I also had an impromptu comparison, in the 6.0, with Nickccc's 440bhp Red Rose Cerbera and the 6.0 couldn't shake it up to 150 when we ran out of space.
How much faster is an LP640 than a 6.0? How much faster than the best Red Rose Cerbera is the Boss?
August 12.... I'm looking forward to it.

I know it's an old link . . .
10 years ago Claxon was way better wasn't he.Is life about dragracing? I don't think so . . . Cerb - 40K then - and Diablo on a track:
That would be the test. Boss words: "On the 'Ring the 6 litre feels like the Millenium Falcon, Cerb is THE car here."Diablo lost from the Aston. But that wasn't a 6 litre. I'm sure it'll be pretty close to 31 secs.
The Aston sounds so good. A bit like the MaccaMerc now . . .
Wow that is really impressive, I bet PW was well chuffed with that result. I've driven a 2005 Murciealago and that was definately much quicker than my Cerb but given the chance to swap bizarely i would still have to think about it..I have always thought that the Cerb was one of the best looking cars ever made and it has so much character that in some ways the Lambo was missing....but i'm obviously biased

thought according to popular folklore it was John Ravenscroft (the J in AJP) who drove that cerb in the famous TG video?Still, bloody good showing for the old tiv!
I beat the Lambo at Fighting Torque in my recently sold Cerb on the second run...admittingly I may have got a better launch than he did and he was catching me at the end, but I crossed the line before he did and clocked a time 0.005 seconds quicker!
At least I have the bragging rights down at the pub with that one...

I've got a strong (TCS/SP) 420bhp 4.5 and a Diablo 6.0. 0-150 there's nothing in it but 150+ the slippery shape, brute force and intergalactic gearing of the Diablo leave the Cerbera behind. The way Cerberas romp to 150 without much effort, the Diablo does to 180. Drawing bikers to speeds where the wind is peeling their fingers off the bars is even easier in the Diablo - get near 300kmh and any biker without a death wish is a distant speck in the mirror. A Cerbera will do 180+, a Diablo is built to do 200+ and it feels that way. No sweaty palms in the big Lambo at the big numbers.
Over a track lap I've found the times to be similar but the way the cars do it is VERY different. The Cerbera winning back anything lost in cornering grip under braking (a 4WD Diablo is quite something in the corners). I'm working on the Diablo brakes then I think the Diablo will have the edge because of the prodigious grip. Another interesting comparison is giving both a prolonged, serious kicking around a circuit. The Cerbera laps it up - I've done several race distances around Spa in a single day. The Diablo oil temperature starts to become an issue and, as mentioned, the brakes start to give up within a handful of laps. So, Cerbera remains my weapon of choice. It's the Daddy.
All that changes in the rain or, worse still, in the rain at night. You can drive a VT Diablo in these conditions almost as fast as you can in the dry. Not so long ago I had to "make progress" from Chichester to London late at night in a monsoon. No street lights on the A3, rivers running across it and most cars tip-toeing in the inside lane. The Diablo was simply epic and while I was driving I thought "thank
I'm not in the Cerbera". The next day on PH there was one of those unfortunate "spotteds" - a Chimaera had met the scenery that night on that road.

Thanks for the insight Boss, stunning cars these Cerbs.
They certainly are - it still amazes me how the 4.5 (10 years old in February) outguns current generation opposition. Still, when the competition catches up, there's always the 4.5's big brother waiting in the wings...
