Suggest that you don't go for anything taller than 200mm - have yet to do the measuring myself, but morebeanz has recently changed his and came back with the 200mm figure. The latest options I've found at costco are:
Bosch Hightec Range (Absorbed Glass Mat)
70Ah 760A 190Hx275Wx170D £115.13 (incl VAT)
Bosch Silver Plus
74Ah 750A 175Hx275Wx175D £70.48 (incl VAT)
63Ah 610A 190Hx240Wx170D £58.73 (incl VAT)

I don't have the car to hand at the mo and I'm in need of a new battery.
Has anyone tried the Banner Bull Starter 072?
Also, what are the messurements of the Caerbs battery?
Trying to
around for the correct one isn't proving easy due to the size changing (Taller!)
On the question of batteries, notwithstanding the physical size requirements to make it fit in the battery box, what is the recommended amp hour for a 4.2 cerb. I don't know what the rating is of the battery currently fitted to my car, but I do know it just aint big enough to start the car easily. When I try to start up she just turns over, there is no hint of her trying to fire up, I suspect the starter motor is taking all the power just to turn her over, not leaving enough to provide a spark. Even though I keep her on a battery optimiser, and the battery shows 12.5 volts. I have now taken to using an emergency jump start pack connected to the battery first thing in the morning, with this connected she fires up 2nd turn of the engine. After she has warmed through she is fine for the rest of the day. I would have thought that for an engine that size 70AH would be a minimum requirement to provide enough power for the starter motor and the coil packs. Does anyone have anything to add?Has anyone tried the Banner Bull Starter 072?

Quite correct, the more normal size 072 (without recessed lugs) is too tall at 220mm, so stick to 200mm or so. 275mm is about the longest, and width doesn't seem to be a problem.Other things to look out for:
- if you want to use the original clamping mechanism, ensure there is a lip on the SHORT side of the battery. This seems to be unusual nowadays.
- my original battery was 650CCA (cold cranking amps). Lots of batteries are just quoted at cranking amps, a big difference when it's effing cold and you just want the thing to start.
In the end, I ignored the issue of the clamping lip and went for a Red Top. I don't reckon the battery will go anywhere!

Mine fires up like a good un, and it was below zero when I left for work this morning

Even though your battery is showing a good voltage, it's the ampage you need. If you haven't got a battery tester/amp meter, put your multimeter on the battery, while someone cranks the car, and see what the voltage drops to

Well. I can say that the 072 Banner Bull Starter fits like a glove. All good.
I did have worries about the hight because the battery was 220mm which is a little taller than the old one (Delta Force!)to the top but it fitted fine.
Thanks for all your help guys.
Now, I'm off to look at what I can do with the Seats & Carpets!

i put an exide heavy duty one in as recommended by my local autoparts shop and i have to say its been brilliant i can leave the cerb for three to four weeks without starting her, and without trickle charge and the battery zaps the engine over very impressed with it i have to say and only cost me about 50 sovs
