Hi again

I don't believe it!!!!!

Found the third bolt in my quest to re-furb the dash.
However, the bolt is turning and I can't get the nut off!!!

Obviously someone has been there before me.

Now absolutely scr***d.

Anybody any advice before I give up completely??

Any help REALLY appreciated.

Yours devastated

Nut splitter? The captive stud has a metal butterfly end that is bonded into the dash - this will need rebonding if you get it out.

These only want nipping up BTWwink Stressing the LHS of the dash (as often advised) without releasing the third nut cannot help the longevity of that fixing IMHO, I would never work on the dash without removing the complete top for this very reason.

HI guys

No problem with re-bonding etc. Have got fibreglas etc in the garage.
What damage am I likely to cause if I force it. I'm hoping if I have to force it that the "bonded" end will come free as the nut end has a big washer on it.
What force to use and where to apply it???

Cheers

NUT SPLITTER! The bonded in bit would have to tear thru the leather if you had to rip it out - which would start making things very ugly.....

You're probably right Spend, looks like it may have been worked on without removing the third bolt, which is why the top end is loose.

If I force the top section up, what damage do you reckon. Will it pull the "butterfly" out. I don't mind this if it is only a re-bonding job. However, don't want to cause irrepairable damage to anything.

Should I force the top straight up or towards the windscreen to cause least amount of damage.

I really need this top off to do the re-furb job properly. This is probably why the veneer is in such a mess anyway!!

Cheers

Put two nuts on the bottom of the thread (it should be long enough) then lock them together. Put a ring spanner on the top nut that you can't get off and hold the two nuts at the bottom with some pliers or a wrench. Should be job done.

Don't try to work under there with one fixing left on, you won't get a proper job done.

Hold the threaded end of the bolt to prevent it turning and undo the nut, if there is room.

PS I could not even find mine!
