Enlarging pictures how far can you go
Discussion
How far would you go - size wise in enlarging a picture but yet keep the quality of a sharp image .. sharp.
I am using a D70S 6mp and can get to around A3+ ~ A2 size. Anyone else have experience of going larger?
I print canvases upto 44" but the sheer nature of the media means that any image becomes soft focus and colour bleed across the media means that pixelation is not (really) an issue, but paper is another story..
Just after some experiences really.
Cheers

Magzines will ask for 300 dpi. It's std. Depends on the size though. When I layout exhibition stands, the graphics (ie the BIG prints the size of a billboard) are done at 72dpi. It's all down to visual acuity - your eye has a certain resolution, and therefore the smallest pixel you resolve is dependant on how far the viewer will be from the subject. Your TV's crap resolution for instance (ie even an HDTV at 1080 px wide should only be just over 3" wide at 300 dpi! (if you excuse the over simplification))
About 4 years ago I won a competition with canon and at the awards ceremony they had A1 size prints of my photo up around the place.
It was from a 2mp camera and upsized a hell of a lot in Photoshop.
The largest I have ever gone was A0 ( twice the size of A1 )
That was using a 6mp camera.
