Hi All,
Not the most exciting thread I'm sure but I'm after my 1st camera bag.

Only looking for a small-ish bag since I don't have much stuff yet, so something that can carry a DSLR, standard lens and potentially a zoom (not that I have this yet) will be sufficient - possibly without the zoom.

Here's the rub - I want to take it cycling, so will be either a backpack, or something that's mountable on handlebars.
I'll post in the cycle thread too for the latter, but does anyone have any recommendations for a backpack style bag (or handlebars - though I suspect this may be too large)?

Hopefully around / less than the £40 mark.

Cheers smile

Have a look at Jessops to get some ideas - there's more in your price range(ish) than I was expecting. But since I wasn't expecting to see anything under £70, that's not difficult! biggrin

I use a Lowepro slingshot 200 which can be had online for £60 but they do a 100 which is £50. An excellent compromise bag as it is a back pack when all the straps are done up but if you undo one clip you can then swivel it round to sit on you stomach and access all the kit from there. Saves you taking it right off when you don't need to. Been really good for me but obviously this is all IMHO smile Appreciate you may not want to spend this much but it gives a start point. Jessops sell them if you wanted to try one. thumbup

Cheers, I had a look at the slingshot 100 via rude girls link, and couldn't tell if it had one or two straps to be any good when riding the bike - the last thing I want to do is for it to fall off / keep slipping about smile

If you buy through JEssops use "BAGS20" in the discount code box and it gives you 20% off biggrin (it might be BAG20)

It has one strap that goes from the right shoulder across the chest and under the left arm. It then has a clip strap that attaches the bottom of the bag to the chest strap. I've just put mine on and with the straps done up well it doesn't move far at all. Maybe worth cycling to a camera shop and trying one out though!!! wink

I'd shop around to get the best price smile
I bought a slingshot 300 earlier in the year from one of amazon's retailers for about £65 if i remember right.

(Just had a quick search - looks like they are about the same price now. Also listing the slingshot200 at £42.96, and the slingshot100 at £33.88)

The slingshot300 is a much larger bag than the 100, about the size of small-medium rucksack. It comes with a waist belt that helps to keep the weight if your shoulder. I've worn one partially-loaded for a day with no real problems.

Cheers.

I have a Lowepro Slingshot 100 for my DSLR and 2 lenses. Its a tight fit but does the job for me and I would recommend it to anyone. I've cycled with it without any problems, although a bag with 2 shoulder straps would make the camera feel more secure. My advice is to head to Jessops and see the bags in person and try on what they have to offer if you can. You can always order online if you find it considerably cheaper!

Thanks for the recommendations

The problem I have is that the nearest Jessops (or civilisation in general, really) is an hour and a half away so web stores / Amazon is my friend smile

There certainly seem to be a couple of contenders there anyway.

Cheers again

Have a look for "Aspen of Hereford" on Ebay. I got my Tamrac Expedition 5 from them a few years back. Much better prices than Jessops etc.
