I have no doubt that I will be totally outdone here but;

Reply with a journey you think you've done in a bloody quick time! I'll start you all off with:

Walthamstow, London to Southampton in 79 mins on a BMW K75RT (with a pillion) and lots luggage/tents/beer. I was really ringing it's neck!!

Time of day - 04:00
Distance - 93.8 miles
Top indicated speed - 115
Average MPH - 71.24

You can use this http://www.arkansasrunner.com/calculators/mileperh...
to calculate smile

Lol, I don't think I'll be committing stuff like this to t'internet wink

For the record I think my average speed must be about 35mph and I never exceed 60mph and even then only when conditions allow <cough>boocks</cough>.

It’s not a commute and it shows the difference between UK roads and those on the continent.

May 2006 a group of 5 of us managed the trip from Clermont-Ferrand to Calais, to arrive at Calais for a 14:30 sailing, at an average of 83mph. This included all fuel/food/toll stops and the journey around the Peripherique. Not bad considering we never exceeded 105mph!

Many years ago I also managed the entire length of Italy, from Reggio Calabria to the Mont Blanc tunnel, just over 1000 miles, in a little over 13.5 hours. This was two up, with full camping luggage and with a self imposed top speed of 100mph. This is an average of almost 75mph!

Sorry I wasn't meant to include the word commute in there (I've changed it) Your blast through Italy! niiiice! What were you riding?

I was riding and BMW K100RS! It wasn't really a fun journey as it was motorway pretty much all the way and stops were done as quickly as possible. I had done the same journey about 6 years before on a CX500 (it took 16 hours then) and was determined to be quicker this time.

Fun is the last thing I would've thought it to be, but in retrospect I'm sure an awesome sense of achievement followed smile

Many moons ago in a car (Impreza), I know a chap who went from Harlow to New quay in 2 hours 59 min’s. A shade over 105 average. He did arrive at 5:59am though.

On a bike when despatching, the same chap found himself in Bristol the (Friday) night of his birthday with a surprise party in London. Once informed of where he should be (Stoke Newington, High Street) he got a hurry on and was there in one hour and 25 mins = 86.

Nowadays things tend to go at a much slower pace, but he still smirks to himself when he makes a destination in an unfeasibly short time smile

I bet you were glad to see your bed!

On long journeys it's not the top speed that makes you fast but the stops that make you slow!

Absolutely! A34 was relatively slow, but M40 was very quiet and cruising between an indicated 150-200 was easy. Would've loved to have seen it from the cab of the occasional HGV that was passed! smile

Nothing too spectacular but I did manage Slovenia to Leeds in about 18 hours including a 4 hour stop for some sleep and a ferry across the channel. No idea what average speed was but I do remember the Autobahn being dead as Germany were playing a World Cup game that day.

You picked the best moment to pass through Germany, I'm sure you weren't the only one. I remember a few of us about 5 or so years ago going for a blast when England were playing in important game of footie, empty roads = lots of fun!! And no police in sight!
