agreed, there's only one double act that works.
Keith Huewen and Julian Ryder.
They used to do Sky's Superbike coverage now alas split up with Jules working for Eurosport on MotorGP and Keith left on Sky to work on other car racing.
They could have Keith & Jules doing the commentary, Brundle in the studio (get rid of that tw@ Rosenthal) and have Dannii Minogue in a very skimpy jumpsuit as the roving pitlane reporter.
(Yes...100th successfull mention of Dannii Minogue on PH)

The problem with Allen is that he sounds like a knowitall anorak. I thought when he was the original pit-lane man on ITV that he was useless and to take over the role from Murray Walker, well, sorry,he doesn't cut it. But then neither does F1 anymore, so there's no point in worrying about it.
Martin Haven would be a good commentator, but he does more interesting things like the ALMS.
Jim Rosenthal just shouldn't be in a racing paddock, let alone F1, he's useless!

Agreed, Im more interested in seeing DRIVERS race not this roundy roundy stuff, auto box, TC.
Classic racings always gonna be the best, power slides and GT40's anyday please!.
have you ever listened to the commentry on radio 5 its much better than itv, with people like stirling moss and derek bell..

I'm SICK of James Allen - during nearly every race we get his inane drivel about "a race to remember", "fantastic season" and so on. Memo for Mr Allen - this season has been average at best, spiced up mainly due to rule changes and weather. I want racing, not chess on wheels. I've recently been watching far more of the IRL and CART races, and they're far better. Also managed to find Aussie Tourers tucked away on Channel 5 in the wee small hours - now that's racing - big V8s with more power than grip. Exactly the same reason the Tuscan series is so good to watch, despite maybe not being as strong as it has been of late.

Yeah, but we get that on Sky for the football. Every game is always the most exciting of the season, played in the world's most exciting league. Apparently.
It's all part of trying to convince the viewer that what they're watching is worthwhile and making sure they watch it again, to keep the advertisers happy.
Keep telling people something and eventually it'll become accepted wisdom. It'll "seem" to be true. Politicians do it all the time, take "speed kills", for example. Or any other issue where there's genuine debate. The trick is not to engage in debate but keep stating the "fact".
I agree James Allen is annoying in both the rubbish he talks and the daft tone of voice he seems to feel compelled to use. Charlie Cox was brilliant when the BBC covered Touring Cars so why not bring him in.
Brundle is superb - without him the coverage would be so dire as to be unwatchable.
It was also ironic when ITV cut to a chuffin' advert break just as the biggest story in F1 for years was on screen (the Irish Catholic Priest loony running up the Hangar Straight!) but at least we were spared James Allen having a paroxysm!! Bring back the BBC!

I'll add "Ferrari loving" knowitall anorak. I'm tired of the sycophantic way he talks about anything to do with the team and the rather patronising way he talks about the other teams in a "well done for doing so well because you're not Ferarri" way. In fact it was at one of these moments it sounded like Martin wanted to deck him :
James "What points will Michael come away from this race at the moment ?"
Martin "None, he's fifteenth."
Didn't he call his son Enzo ?
Sooner the better, get rid. A Minogue sister would be a fine replacement.

Think they did that on purpose to avoid the viewing public the very real possibility of seeing that bloke smashed into smithereens on live television....
Now, cutting away from the Hungarian GP just as Hill overtook Schumacher on the other hand....
I say bring in Ben Edwards. He's a fantastic commentator, from when he did Indycars (as it was called then) on Eurosport, to doing the BTCC on ITV now. He'd go much better with Martin Brundle than that tit Allen.

He talks about the drivers personal life, and how he's been getting on with his race engineer. Now, theres a time and a place for all that. IT'S NOT WHILE HE'S ON HIS HOTLAP!!! SHUT UP AND LET BRUNDLE DO QUALIFYING ON HIS OWN!!!
