Hi all,

My exhausts keep blacking up, i've been told it could be a mixture/fueling problem or is it nothing to be concerned about? I have warranty on the car but don't know weather its worth bothering the garage.

Cheers Paul

That's very common and I wouldn't worry about it.

Don't worry about it, our 2006 Golf GTi has done it since new, without using max revs. So long as you're not leaving smoke screens or the back of the car isn't caked in a kind of oily moisture its normal.

like they say dont worry at all. Few months back i had it worse than that where every journey would leave the entire rim of the exhaust black (Only the right hand side though)and sooty and put soot on the rear of my car. Turned out it was a lambda sensor gone on the right exhaust and an exhaust valve not shuting properly new shim and sensor seemed to fix it, no soot even after a hard thrash.

I think this is a TADTS (They All Do That, Sir!) thing. If it is just a little on the exhaust, I wouldn't worry (I don't). Obviously, if you get a Bondesque smoke-screen behind you, get her checked.

Nice looking car, BTW wink

They dont all do that. It' s nothing to worry about, but some hardly black up at all.

If you have a sports exhaust that banging and popping you hear is petrol exploding inside the exhaust so you would expect to get a bit of soot inside the tubing. Off course someone may say im completely wrong?
