I have been asked to look at a friends Dads XJS TWR Convertable 1988 i think, and make him an offer, it is in black with a body kit and has a plaqe under the bonnet confirming it was converted by TWR. it has done 40,000 miles but has not been driven for 10 years, the trim is now in a bit of a mess with the piping coming off and cracked leather, the outside does not look bad, stored indoors so that has helped, the hood is good to.

Does any body know what it might be worth and what to look out for should i but it, are they a sought after car or and old dinosaur that should be avoided.

I would not want to pay more than £3-4k without a full inspection.

Is the front sub-frame OK?

Do all the electrics inc. air-con work?

Get the brakes checked out.

Not a dinosaur, fabulous car IF it is a good one.

ditto to all as mentiomned above, also check the diff cradle for cracks and the arms and bushes for corrosion or worse. check the front inner arches and the suspension mounts (quite costly if rotten)that said it sounds like a very rare beast, don't think i've seen an original twr convertible. I doubt the convertible conversion was done by TWR back in 88 but maybe they were sent from the factory as a 'vert for the TWR makeover.

Is it an XJS or XJRS?
Is it a v12?... if so check the logbook for a 5.3 or 6.0 afaik all twr xjrs's were 6 litre and fitted with speedline alloys and check the shocks are the yellow billies as with the xjrs.

also confirm if its a full convertible not the cabriolet and are there rear seats fitted or do you have the big cubbyhole with the chrome bar?

It is a full convertable,Black 5.3 Has a aluminium badge under the bonnet with TWR details on and TWR on the alloy wheels, has recent tyres and he has kept the service history up to date it has big bumpers and side covers, the interior has not been looked after, the leather is cracked and the piping coming off, no rust that i can see ,just needs a good clean
