headlight dipping conversion

A friend of mine has recently moved to France and would like to keep his 1995 3-series soft top whilst out there (sorry, not sure of the E series no.). Model has the headlights behind single cover, he has been quoted £750 for right dipping (ie for LHD) replacement headlights, and he is reluctant to spend that much on an older car. Does anyone have any suggestions where he might be able to find a cheaper alternative (he hasn't seen any in breakers in France, otherwise he will bring car back to Uk to sell it.
As it is an older model, I am assuming there is no easy way to adjust the lights without replacing them.
He's quite happy with his French car, but wants to hang on to the soft top BMW if possible, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
