ive decided to go for a nice smooth tick over and power from the start.ive looked in to it and the choices are the mc1, piper 270 or the standard tvr cam as a replacement .people give me different advice telling me that the ecu needs to be changed and head work is required if i decided to go for piper 285 or stealth .... any advice daren

The best advice many will give you is to have a good chat with the chaps at V8 Developments. They do a cam for everyone, only sell the highest quality stuff, and nobody knows the RV8 better.I'm sure they will advise that the ecu doesn't always need to be re-mapped,depending on cam choice

Hi Darren
First off go to the chimaera pages and follow the link to the info about cam setting up. There's a small section in there from Rob Robertson about the different cams available & what makes a good cam for different applications, quite excellent. But it doesn't finish here of course - I have had a stealth fitted to my 500 with an LCA of 110 deg and it has lost just a bit at idle & pickup from idle, not quite a pussy now but mid range & up - just something else. Now, I actually wanted to keep the idle / pickup smoothness I had for when my wife drives (rarely and probably now even less...) and to do so I would've been better with an LCA of perhaps 112 deg but I didn't know there was an option at the time (and nor did I know enough anyway) - I just thought a stealth was a stealth & very tractable. No complaints, but definitely worth talking to Rob at V8D before purchase.
If you do change, go for the whole valve train renewal - followers, pushrods & rockers (for what it costs, the full shaft assemblies are worthwhile).
Cheers
Mike

I had a piper 285 in my 500 griff, and it was great, it really gave good torque figures, and is no problem at all for the ecu, as well as talking to Rob, give Jamie at castle race engines a bell, he is a big fan of pipers.

Jamie also does some excellent profiles, and i've seen the dyno graphs for them which demonstrate the torque and bhp curves nicely.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
