wii 480p or 576i?

Hi Chaps,

Just wondering if anyone out there has tried the Wii using the composite cable and the 480p setting and if its much different to the 576i setting? I have a HDTV and want to know whether shelling out the extra £20 is worth the cash. 480p isnt exactly high definition now is it but the 576i does look a bit shaky.

I played Zelda with it for a few hours and it's a bit sharper, but not like the difference you'd notice from playing a PS3 or an XBox 360 on a normal TV compared to a HDTV.

If you can get the cable cheap then go for it.

The standard cable is probably composite. Just getting a simple RGB scart will be much much better, if you can get 480p working it'll look better still.

You're right I do. The ones that split the signal up to the red, green & blus values (or whatever colours it is) and then the sound on a seperate channel. The one in the box is video, sound left, sound right. And according to the manual wont support the 480p. However what I want to know is does it really make any difference to picture quality?

As said, won't make a huge amount of difference but it will look a bit crisper and if you can get the cables for £10 or so it's probably worth it.

Yep. In 480p mode the quality is much better and oddly the responsiveness and accuracy of the Wiimote is better. Also the range is better, but not sure why.

480p with a decent quality composite cable is the way forward.

I'm running mine with a component lead @ 480P, still looks shite but then it's a Wii.

576i = PAL

That's an odd resolution, VGA (no-overscan) interlaced. NTSC would be 525i for reference.

I don't know if there is any option anywhere to change the resolutino, i don't think there is.
