How can I tell if my
V8S is a 400 275 BHP modle

I thought all V8S's were the same?

According to Steve Heath's book 2 V8S's were built with 4.3L engines which had 275bhp. Apparently one was white and the other red with grey hide interior; these were built in 1991. It goes on to say that the buyers had to sign disclaimers as it wasn't clear if the cars still met the type approval with the main concern being the rear mounting bolts on the trailing arms and their ability to cope with the increased power. However it also says that there didn't seem to be any problem according to Team Central who ordered and serviced them. Interestingly it also says there were a few 5L cars ..
I don't know if that helps you - it may not confirm anything but it may disprove it more easily.

Firstly you need to post this question in the S series forum.

But standard V8S are 240 bhp from the 4 litre lump.

If your insurer asks, it's 240 BHP.

Down the pub, it's 275 BHP.

On the rollers you'll be lucky to see more than about 200 BHP.

Although mine was fitted with a 4 litre HC as standard (being one of the last manufactured, in 1994). It has 400 HC on the rocker covers.
